Babay Fay Crochet Hat Templates: Review & Giveaway!

Today I'm working with Babay Fay to show you their fantastic Crochet Hat Templates! These make crocheting a hat SO EASY! And I get to give a set away here on Moogly!
Babay Fay Crochet Hat Templates - review and giveaway on Moogly! See image and post for details!

Isabelle of Babay Fay invented the template after volunteering to crochet hats for a newborn intensive care unit, eventually expanding it into a set of 16 different sizes. The templates couldn't be simpler -  a piece of plastic that you can use to guide your stitches, creating the perfect fitting hat for any size!

The Babay Fay templates are ingenious, and definitely gave me a huge "why didn't I think of that" moment! So simple, and so smart! Here's how you use them. First, use the handy included chart to determine which template to use for the size of hat you want to make. Then, start crocheting a circle, using whatever stitches you desire! When your circle is the same size as the top of the template, you've got the size of circle needed.

Then, just start crocheting evenly - no more increases. When your hat is the same length as the template, it's done!

I picked template #12 for my experiment, which according to the included chart, should fit a 10-14 year old. My youngest turns 10 next week, so this hat was for him! I used Lion Brand Color Waves for the yarn, along with a US-I, 5.5mm Furls hook, and crocheted a simple hat of hdc stitches worked in a spiral. Et voila!

I couldn't have asked for a better fit! And I didn't have to pull out the measuring tape, or pull up the Yarn Standards website, or try it on him over and over again. He loved it so much he wore it for the rest of the night!

Babay Fay Crochet Hat Templates are available directly from BabayFay.co.uk, in three different sets: Set A includes 10 templates for sizes 2lbs preemie up to Child size 1-3 years old; Set B includes 6 templates for Child size 3-10 years old up to Adult XL; and the Full Set includes all 16 sizes, 2lbs preemie to Adult XL.

Each set, partial or full, also includes a laminated reference chart and manual, hat pattern to try the templates out with, and a metal linking wire to keep them all together and organized. It's a fantastic set, with everything you need to make a hat in any size! I can see these making things a whole lot easier for many crocheters. And I can't see any reason they wouldn't work equally well for knitters too - after all, heads are the same size no matter what stitches you use to make the hat! So be sure to check out Babay Fay's Crochet Hat Templates - and enter to win a Full Set below!

I make a lot of hats out of my left over yarn and give them away to homeless in the winter.

Hi Judy! I believe the average head size is the same in the US and UK, and the laminated chart that comes with the set lists the hat sizes by age, cm, and inches, so everyone is covered whether they fit the average head size or not. 🙂

All heads are different, but basically the same. I’m a Brit, living in American, do you think I’d have a bigger head than the average American.

Around $33 for the full set, though currency rates fluctuate - so that's right this minute! I'm not sure what currency converter the Babay Fay site uses, but that should be close. 🙂

Thank you. I am about to make some beanies for the Ronals Macdonald House where my 3 year old grandson has spent many months. Would like to give something back for the generosity given to my daughter and her family. THANK YOU.

What a great idea! Sizing is one of the main reasons why I have so far avoided crocheting hats!

Wondering where the bottom of the hat falls. Is it mid- ear or ear lobe?

My boy has inherited my big Irish head (and refuses haircuts, ha!), so it came just to his ear lobes. You can add extra rows to make it slouchy too - I always recommend trying a hat on when possible before cutting the yarn!

Can you use any crochet pattern for a hat or do you have to follow the pattern that came with the templates? All the patterns I use are made with double crochet.Ev
