Have you ever heard of thrumming and do you know if it's possible for crochet? Someone asked if I could make them thick mittens with fleece, and another person said it was thrumming done with knitting, I don't knit and I don't know much about thrumming. I've lined mittens with fleece, but I'm also not very good at that. I need to look online for a tutorial.
Tamara Kelly
The Yarn Harlot has a good explanation and tutorial here: http://www.yarnharlot.ca/blog/thrumfaq.html It's for knitting, but I think you can see how you'd do it with crochet - insert your hook through the loop of the thrum and crochet right through it!

Need Assistance Please! No matter what I do, I can not get the pattern for Shark Mittens by Annette Hynes. What am I not doing right?
I love the mittens and would love to make one pair for my grandson. Any help in obtaining the pattern, I would be grateful. Thank You
Shar Holder
I didn't seem to have any trouble.
Click on the pattern name above. It should take you to her website. About half-way down the page on the left is a picture of the mitts again with 'shark mitts pdf' underneath. Click on that and it should download the pattern if you have a pdf reader. When it opens I think it is about 4 pages. Hope this helps.
Debi
Thank You Shar Holder! I did do that four times and it did not come up with the written instructions. All I was getting is the picture of the Mittens.
I am thinking now, since you told me you had no trouble getting the instructions, that I will turn off my computer and to re-boot it. All tho I have never had to do that in the past, nor have I had trouble getting a written instructions. Never know, this time could be the charm!
Tamara Kelly
It's working for me too - I'm sorry I can't be more help!
Debi
Tamara Kelly, I do not know what caused my problem. I was able to get the pattern after I re-booted my computer.
I went in and did as Shar Holder suggested, and ....Ta Da!
Thank You!

Oh good! 🙂 I hope you enjoy them! 😀

Thank you Shar!

Has ANYONE found a good crochet pattern for "convertible" mittens??? These are the ones you can flip back the top to expose your fingers if needed. NOT wrist warmers. I am having an awful time finding many patterns. Possibly they are known as something else also? Thanx in advance 🙂
Tamara Kelly
Hi Patty! I went on a search for those last year, and I wasn't able to find much either I'm afraid. These are what I can find today, just one pair: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fingerless-flip-top-mittens
Valerie Young
Here are some free ones http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/flip-top-mittens

Thanx Valerie! I saw these, thought I had it pinned, and then noticed it wasn't on my board. By that time I couldn't remember where I had got it from and somehow it never showed up again! I'm making them tonight "just in case" !

Patty,
I had seen a pattern for the convertible mittens, but I am sorry to say I did not save the site.
All I have is a written pattern for Crochet Gloves, The patterns says, that you can work them with full fingers or half fingers, as you like, or even with slits in the fingers so you can poke your fingers through. I do not have the site where I found them tho.
If you think you might like Gloves I can try to find the site.
Debi
Patty,
That was faster then I thought it would take me. I just found the site for the Gloves. You can check it out and see if you might be interested in them.

Hi Patty - I love the Easy-On Mittens and haven't been able to find any other pattern like it, however it appears the link to obtaining the free pattern is no longer available. Any idea where I might be able to find a similar pattern. Love the idea of 'easy on' but with a button to keep them on!
Thanks so much
Tamara Kelly
Hi Judy! It looks like the pattern has moved. I'll edit the listing, and it's at http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/darlas-easy-on-mittens 🙂

You are wonderful, Tamara!! That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you from myself and all my grandbabies who will each be getting a pair.
Tamara Kelly
😀 You're very welcome Judy, and thank you so much!
