Oversized Fit for a Comfy Day
This sweater is crocheted top down, so you can customize the fit as you go. The Sunday Funday Top is oversized, with up to 8" of positive ease - for a slimmer fit, go down a size! Prefer something longer? Just add more rows (to both the front and back)! This easy mesh stitch pattern is ready for any personalization you want to throw at it - stripes, appliques, add rows or sleeves - I can't wait to see what you do with this one!

US-J, 6.0 mm hook, Susan Bates
700 - 1500 yds Bernat Softee Cotton (3-Light; 60% cotton, 40% acrylic; 120g/4.2 oz, 232 m/254 yds)
A: Clear White (3 (4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6) skeins)
B: Pool Green (less than 1 skein, all sizes)
C: Warm Red (less than 1 skein, all sizes)
D: Golden (less than 1 skein, all sizes)
E: Seaside Blue (less than 1 skein, all sizes)
Gauge (laid flat): 13 sts x 7 rows = 4"/10 cm in dc
Sizes (bust measurement):
Extra Small - 32" (Small - 34" (shown), Medium - 38", Large - 42", XL - 46", 2X - 50", 3X - 54", 4X - 58", 5X - 62")
NOTES:
This pattern includes up to 8" of positive ease, based on the bust measurement. For a slimmer fit, chose one size down.
The length of this top is totally customizable - just add more repeats of the last 2 rows. Be sure to adjust the length of both the front and back to match - or go longer in the back if desired!
It is strongly recommended that you try on your top before weaving in the ends from the side seams and adding the edging so that you can see just how long the fabric hangs and adjust both the length of the top and the length of the side vents. Remember that crochet grows with gravity!
If desired, substitute a Chainless Starting Double Crochet (CSDC) and ch 1 for the Ch 4 beginning the even-numbered rows, and a CSDC for the Ch 3 beginning the odd-numbered rows.
If desired, substitute a Standing Double Crochet (STDC) for the ch-3 whenever adding a new color or skein of yarn at the beginning of a row.

Body

TIP - Do NOT tie off or weave in your ends here - you may want to adjust the length once you can try it on! It will seem short, but gravity will do its work once it's worn.

Repeat as written for the FRONT OF SWEATER.
ASSEMBLY:
Use clips or stitch markers to hold pieces together for sewing. Be sure that RS of both pieces is facing out.
Whip stitch seam the tops of the shoulders together.
Whip stitch seam the bottom of the sleeves and sides of the sweater together, leaving a 4" vent on both sides.
Try the sweater on to adjust side vent length as desired.
Sc evenly around neck opening, sleeve openings, and hem. Weave in all ends.

This is so cute and simple! I'm making it with a 4-weight cotton yarn from my stash and K hook, so I sized down, and it's coming along great. Also planning on making it in all one piece by attaching yarn at the shoulder once the front is done, which will help my ADHD not lose interest by being more than one piece! Then all I'll have to seam is the sides. I'll make sure to tag one on insta when I post it!

Hi! I'm about done with this project and I am at the point of lining everything up and sewing both sides together. I am doing size medium. I noticed that the front-of-top sleeves only have 17 rows, but the back has 19 rows. I did the same number of rows down the whole thing (I extended to 47 rows total for each side). I'm finding that the back sleeves and front sleeves don't line up well because of the sleeves having a different number of rows. Therefore not allowing me to line it all up all the way down. I'm really hoping the number of rows for the sleeves wasn't a typo on the sizes because I'm so far into this! Am I doing something wrong? I'm pretty new to making clothing! Please help if you can.

Hi Kaitlynn! The sleeves themselves don't have to have the same number of rows, because you don't sew them together along the sides. You only have to match up at the shoulders, the underside of the sleeves, and the sides of the body. 🙂
