I love using my Cricut for super quick crafts around the house - and this month I tackled our bathroom, and one of the hottest trends out there - Mermaids! Here's how to make your own Mermaid Soap Dispenser (and soon, crochet set!)

Don't have a Cricut but still want to make this craft? CLICK HERE to buy a pre-cut Mermaid tail decal on Etsy! If you do have a Cricut or other cutting machine... read on!
There are lots of great mermaid cut files out there, so I didn't reinvent the wheel for this one... just put it in a new place! I started by browsing the files available to me through Cricut Access.
You can see which one jumped out as perfect for this project! I added the image to my "New Project," and removed the parts I didn't want to cut by clicking on the eye icons in the right panel.
Then it was time to measure the soap dispenser. I got this one as a set of two soap dispensers from Amazon (can always use an extra, am I right?)! I decided just about 5 inches tall would be perfect for my mermaid tail.
So I adjust the size of the tail and sent it to my Cricut Maker for cutting, via Cricut Design Space. I used Cricut Holographic Vinyl in Opal - how gorgeous is this?? I only cut a bit more than needed for this project, so I have lots left over for the future.
After sending it through the machine, a bit of weeding (aka, removing all the bits you don't want) on the Cricut BrightPad, and a scrap of Cricut Transfer Tape turns this tail into a ready to use sticker - the vinyl itself is already adhesive, but the transfer tape holds it just stiff enough to be easy to use!
Just press down nice and firmly all over the Vinyl before you remove the Transfer Tape.
There was one spot right outside one of the scale cutouts where it didn't want to lay flat, but a quick snip of the scissors fixed that.
And of course, I'm sharing it with you - CLICK HERE to go to the Mermaid Soap Dispenser in Cricut Design Space! Because I used a Cricut Access cut file, I can't share the SVG file for download. But with the steps I shared above, I bet you can make your own if you use another cutting machine. All the supplies I used for this project are linked above too!
What inspired this Mermaid Soap Dispenser? Well, it's sort of a chicken and egg question... but the Mermaid Handtowel and Washcloth shown above are free crochet patterns here on Moogly! This set was made with Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie, in White and Aqua - just one ball of each! Click here to order your yarn!
I love using my Cricut to make pieces to compliment my crochet! What ideas do you have for more combos? Share your thoughts in the comments!
Thank so much for crafting with me - and watch for the Mermaid crochet set May 4th, 2018!
