Get the look with Red Heart Nylon
Straw purses are right on trend, and you can get this summery look with Red Heart Crochet Nylon! This unique yarn is perfect for accessories. While it's a little different crocheting with nylon, it's pretty easy to get used to - just use a strong hook!
Super Easy Construction
The Perfect Summer Crochet Clutch is made in a sort of incomplete oval - imagine a watermelon with one end cut off! Front loop and back loop only stitches form a textured fabric with great lines. And then to assemble all you have to do is fold it in thirds and crochet along the sides - easy as can be!
Mix It Up and Make It Yours
While I used the Natural colorway to get a straw look, Red Heart Nylon comes in 5 different colors, so you can make a variety of bags for your summer wardrobe.
And with the construction method used, you can easily make the Perfect Summer Crochet Clutch in any size - just stop when you've got the size you want, or keep going in the pattern! (But if you do go bigger, you'll need another ball of yarn.)

Assembly:
Step 1: Fold the project in thirds, RS out, as shown in the schematic below by the red lines. Use stitch markers to secure sides.
Step 2: From back side of the clutch, join to bottom corner and ch 1, sc through both layers along the side, sc evenly around the curved flap, and sc through both layers along the opposite side to the opposite bottom corner. Break yarn and weave in ends.
Step 3: Sew in the magnetic snap or another closure device.
Step 4: If desired, cut 2 pieces of plastic canvas to the side of the finished clutch interior. Line the interior of the clutch with fabric, sandwiching the canvas between the crochet and fabric layers.
Like any classic bag, the Perfect Summer Crochet Clutch will always be in style - or on it's way back around again! I can't help but think it would also make a super cute coin purse with a shorter first row... what do you think?

Oh la la! What a beautiful purse!

I really like this pattern. I know that it's basically a rectangle with attachexd half circle. Is there a knitting pattern that uses the same shape?
Tamara Kelly
Thank you! I'm afraid I haven't spotted a knit one that has quite the same look!
Alex
How did you line the purse with the fabric/canvas? Fabric glue?
Tamara Kelly
That could work! Or sew it in with matching thread. 🙂
Jerri E DuBois
Started with 47 chains, completed row one, 45 stitches. How does that equal 93 stitches?
Row 2 45 ducks. No stitches left to add 2 hdc in last 3 stitches, then 45 hdc.
Instructions continue similarly.
I’m totally confused!
Tamara Kelly
