Published: Feb 10, 2016 by Tamara Kelly · 40 Comments

The Moroccan Basket uses a stitch pattern that has been well documented here on Moogly, complete with it's own video tutorial. But it starts off with one change, and that's causing a bit of confusion! So here is a video tutorial for that pesky Round 7 - right and left handed of course!

The Moroccan Basket now includes a special video tutorial! Watch and get the FREE crochet pattern on Mooglyblog.com!Disclaimer: This post includes affiliate links.

Thank you so much for adding a video, explaining how to do round 7. It is so easy to do once a visual is explain. Thank you for taking your time in doing this. I've done about 3 baskets so far.

Love the moroccan tile basket pattern and the inside went super quick. I watched the video for round 7 on the outside portion but am having difficulties after that round. Is there any other details/video to show how the inside should look as you switch back and forth on each round between colors? My rows aren't looking the same as the picture.. Please e-mail me a link or details when possible.

      Thanks!!!

I love this basket! Thank you for the pattern. However, I think I followed the directions to the "T" and mine does not look like the picture either. Instead of the cream color as the highlighted color mine is the gray highlighted. It turned out beautiful, but I was disappointed. Has anyone else had these results?

Me too. Lol. I thought I misread the instruction. I guess after I finish this, I'm making another and switch the color. 🙂

Do you use two strands of yarn for the basket and the inside?

Hi Manrty! Though I do love doubling up yarn, this one is made single stranded only. But if you want to use a thinner yarn, then doubling up is going to be necessary! 🙂

Hi Vicki! This is correct. Starting with Round 7, you are making the sides, so it will start curving upward. 🙂

I love the Moroccan basket and I've been stuck on round 7 for over a week. When I count number of ch-1 sps, the number greatly exceeds 24. I understand the pattern stitch so I'm not sure where I'm going wrong. I've played the right hand tutorial so many time I can almost see it in my sleep.

I appreciate any information you can provide to get me on the right path. Completing the liner was really straight forward and came out really nice.

      Thanks

Hi Joanne! I wish I knew! 🙁 Are you skipping the stitches between the V sts?

Wow, row 7 is something else. I'm having the same problem that Joanne Mann described in her Sep 16 comment.
Row 6, turn and ch 2, dc in next st and ch 1. *2-dc2tog (4 stitches over 3 stitches of previous row) then another chain*. Is that the correct pattern? I have 72 stitches in row 6 but always end up with more than 24 ch-1 spaces in row 7.
Did Joanne solve her problem? Seems so elementary but ..... HELP!
        Thanks, Dawn Lavender

Eventually, I did figure out row 7. It was as simple as reading the instructions and listening very carefully to the tutorial. I had to take a break from trying to understand what I had missed. The basket turned out to be worth the effort.

Hi! I love this pattern. I've watched this tutorial several times and understand the stitch, but I keep ending up with one stitch left over at the end of the round. I do start with 72 stitches from round six have 24 ch-1 spaces when I'm done with round seven. Not sure what I'm doing wrong?

Hi Karen! It's so hard to say without seeing it in person. My best guesses are that you put 2 stitches in the same space that shouldn't be, or you're looking at the sl st in the previous round. Failing that, I would just work the last repeat without sharing the st in the middle (under the ch 1), and move on. 😛

I agree with Tamara that you may have put 2 stitches in the same space. The key words for me were the "NEXT stitch", which is the critical element for the decrease. It was more of a mental block than anything else because the pattern looks so complex.

i have tried this pattern twice. i cannot seem to get it to stand up. it continues to be flat. i could really use a step by step video. im not advanced as everyone. every project i have ever made is always wrong. some people say it adds character. nice way of saying that i suck at crocheting. i have been really depressed about not being able to do this baskets. ive looked at other peoples baskets on other channels and they don't look nice. its a small bag for my mom who has cancer and i so desperately wanted to make it for her.please help me. show me what i am doing wrong.

When i mean flat i mean that it just looks like an odd looking place-mat. it doesn't even remotely look like a bag.

Hello Ruby! I have no idea what could be causing this issue, how strange! I believe I replied to your other comment with my email address, hopefully with photos I'll be able to figure out what is happening. I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I was traveling all this past week. I have comments moderated to prevent spam - your comment didn't disappear, it just wasn't public til after I saw it. 🙂

when i said i needed a video i mean the whole thing. step by step. i noticed my comment is gone as well. i really need help with this. i thought that was what you were here for? i don't understand most of it as to why it is so flat when i do it. i understand a liner goes in it to stand it up. but i think it is too wide for all that. i can send a picture if you like. if i don't recieve help i will give up and unsubscribe and never bother you again.

Hi Ruby! I'm afraid I don't have a step by step full video for this pattern, as so much of it was shown in previous videos. I try to help everyone as best as I can, as time allows. In response to your comments about not understanding row 7, I had the same problem. Once I realized I was not going into the "NEXT" stitch, the problem was solved. I took notes so when I did another basket I would see where I could get into trouble. This is what I wrote: Chain 1 - go into Previous stitch; pull through 2; go into NEXT stitch and pull thru 3."

I had all sorts of graphs and pattern shapes, but when I cold see the bigger picture, it all fell into place.
I love the Thick and Quick yarn; I'm glad I stuck with it.
