The pineapple has an interesting history – and has been associated at different times with hospitality, and with good fortune. And of course, pineapples are an ever popular crochet motif. These days, we could all use a little extra hospitality and good luck, and that inspired the Lucky Pineapple Plant Hangers!

The Lucky Pineapple Plant Hangers need just two things – Lion Brand Fast-Track and air plants! If you aren’t familiar with air plants yet, you soon will be – they seem to be popping up all over. These unique plants don’t require dirt, direct sunlight, or even a vase of water to grow – just spritz the leaves with water every so often and you’re good. So that opens up lots of fun possibilities… like turning them into tiny pineapples!
I added a tiny hanging loop to my Lucky Pineapple Plant Hangers so I can hang them up around the house in fun and unexpected places. But you can just as easily leave the loop off and use them like little pots, as shown here. Without the dirt, there’s no worry about leaks or anything – you can pop a little pineapple wherever you like! And since air plants come in such a wide variety of sizes, I’ve included three sizes of Lucky Pineapple Plant Hangers (plus a link to where I bought my air plants).

Wow! I did not know that pineapples were a representation of hospitality and good fortune. Amazing! I read that good fortune is associated with a bowl of uncooked rice, but I did not know that pineapples had anything to do with luck. Love, love this air plant thing. No sunlight requirement. A spritz of water. I want one. I have plants in my home but I’ve never really had green fingers. It helps tremendously that there’s a crochet pattern for this because I love to crochet. I am really looking forward to making a pineapple air plant for myself, and more to give as gifts. Pattern totally appreciated.
