    What is the Leap Day Mystery Make Along?

    It's a fun way to celebrate a special day! Here's how it's set up:

    • The project we are making is a wearable.
    • The clues will be given every over the course of today, Feb. 29, 2020, every two hours.
    • Clues will be given at 9am, 11am, 1pm (THIS POST), 3pm, and 5pm EST.
    • Tamara Kelly of Moogly designed the crochet piece.
    • Marly Bird designed the knitting piece.
    • Both the crochet and knit pieces resemble one another!
    • Don't have time today? No worries - follow along any day of the year! Each post will link to the others. An ad-free PDF of the completed pattern will also be added to Ravelry soon.

    The Leap Day Mystery Crochet Along

    MATERIALS:

    Yarn: Bernat Softee Chunky (100g / 3.5 oz, 99 meters / 108 yards)
    Color A: 108 yds (all sizes)
    Color B: 216 (216, 216, 324, 324, 324, 432, 432, 432) yds

    Hook: 12mm (Clover Amour recommended)

    Notions: Stitch Markers, Yarn Needle

    Sizes:

    XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL) - be sure to scroll down to the instructions for your size, starting with Clue #2.

    These sizes are based on Craft Yarn Council Standards, with minimal ease. If you prefer a looser fit to your wearables, you may wish to go up a size.

    Join with dc

    CSDC - Chainless Starting Double Crochet (ch 3 as a substitute if preferred)

    Special Stitch

    make corner - work 3 dc in the indicated st, place a stitch marker in the 2nd (center) of these sts.

    Rnd 1: Turn over Color A rectangle, join to marked st with dc, dc in next 5 sts, make corner, dc in next 8 sts, make corner, dc in next 9 sts, make corner, dc in next 8 sts, make corner, dc in next 3 sts; join with sl st to first dc of Rnd. Use first tail to sew bottom of first and last st of this rnd closed. (46 sts)

    Rnd 2: CSDC in first st, *dc in each st to marked st, make corner in marked st; rep from * across, after last marked st dc in each rem st; join. (54 sts)

    S Instructions

    Rnd 1: Turn over Color A rectangle, join to marked st with dc, dc in next 4 sts, make corner, dc in next 8 sts, make corner, dc in next 8 sts, make corner, dc in next 8 sts, make corner, dc in next 3 sts; join with sl st to first dc of Rnd. Use first tail to sew bottom of first and last st of this rnd closed. (44 sts)

    M Instructions

    Rnd 1: Turn over Color A rectangle, join to marked st with dc, dc in next 6 sts, make corner, dc in next 9 sts, make corner, dc in next 10 sts, make corner, dc in next 9 sts, make corner, dc in next 3 sts; join with sl st to first dc of Rnd.         Lots of help for each clue at https://www.facebook.com/groups/MarlysMinions/781779945677640/ 🙂
        For Clue 3, you join to the stitch you marked in Clue 2 (the last sc made in the Set Up section) from the smooth side, then crochet across just the set up section as directed for your size, then join to work the rest of the pattern in the round.
