I Love Yarn Day is taking place this year on October 17th, 2015 - this Saturday! It's time to celebrate your love of yarn and all it can do - here's what this special day is all about!
I Love Yarn Day was started by the Craft Yarn Council 5 years ago as a way to spread the good feeling we all get from yarn crafting, and encourage knitters and crocheters to spread that joy and pass on their love of the crafts by "stitching it forward" - and teaching someone else to knit or crochet!
Here are some great ideas for how you can get involved and spread the joy of yarn crafting!
- Check out the ILYD Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest pages to join in the official countdown to ILYD and find ideas for how to #stitchitforward including fun ways to celebrate yarn, tips for teaching others how to knit and crochet, free patterns, giveaways and more
- Enter TWO FUN CONTESTS for the chance to win yarn, accessories, books, and online class subscriptions!
- Capture photos of you teaching your yarn craft as you “stitch it forward” and share your love of knitting/crochet with the people you love. Be sure to post this on your social media using the hashtags #stitchitforward and #ILYD2015
You don't have to be a blogger, designer, or professional to celebrate - ILYD is for everyone!
Need more inspiration? What about the fact that knitting and crocheing is good for your health? In addition to the plethora of studies and recent news articles revealing the positive affects yarn-crafting can have on one’s health, the Craft Yarn Council received some inspiring feedback from knitters and crocheters surveyed in a research review conducted in late 2014. Ninety-three percent of subjects reported the crafts gave them a feeling of accomplishment; 85% credited them for stress reduction and 68% praised the crafts’ powers to improve their mood. These results are just a few of many continuing to highlight the feel-good quality that comes from yarn crafting. All the more reason to “stitch it forward!”
