Okay, so octopi don't have anything to do with Easter (though they do lay eggs!). But making crochet curlicues is so much fun, and these little creatures make me smile!
Raid Your Button Stash Too!
Each Octopus Egg Cozy uses 2 buttons (or a bit of yarn if preferred). So while you can do some yarn stashbusting with these, you can also go through all your buttons and have fun matching them up for each cozy!

US - G, 4.00mm hook - Furls
25 yds Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie (100% cotton; 4/Medium/UK 10-12 ply)
Colorways shown: Coral, Caribbean, Lime, Lavender, and Sunshine (25 yds per cozy)
Stitch Markers - Clover
Small Buttons (2 per cozy)
Coats Sewing Thread and Sewing Needle
Gauge: 1.5" across after Rnd 4
Size: Fits one large egg; approximately 3.5" across at widest point x 1.5" tall when standing

Notes:
This pattern is worked in a spiral, do not join with a slip stitch at the end of each round unless indicated, and only ch when indicated. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each rnd to help keep track.
If you would prefer to avoid buttons, embroider the eyes on the cozy using scrap yarn.
Instructions
Rnd 1: Make a magic circle, ch 1, sc 6 in the ring. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: *Sc in the next st, 2 sc in the next st; rep from * around. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: *2 sc in the next st, sc in the next 2 sts; rep from * around. (24 sc)
Rnd 5: Blo sc in each st around.
Row 6 - 11: Sc in each st around. At end of Rnd 11, sl st in next st, break yarn, seamless join to next st.
Tentacles: Turn to work from the top of the cup facing down. Join to any unused loop of Rnd 4 with sl st, ch 10, skip the ch closest to the hook, 3 sc in each rem ch, sl st in next 2 Rnd 4 loops, *ch 10, skip the ch closest to the hook, 3 sc in each rem ch, sl st in next 3 Rnd 4 loops; rep from * around finishing last rep with sl st in last 2 loops, break yarn and weave in ends.
Eyes: Add button eyes as shown with sewing thread and needle.
