Does it feel like Fall where you are? Here in Iowa USA it's 47ºF this morning, and the kids wore jackets to school. I'm thinking about apple cider, warm cake, and hats and mittens!
With three kids and cold winters, it seems like we always have both too many hats and not enough. What we needed most last year though, was a hat that would work with my daughter's hairstyle! With long hair she wears her hair up to school nearly every day, but stocking caps and ponytails don't mix. So I went to Ravelry (of course) and found the Hannah pattern, a great free pattern by Blake Ehrlich! Here's my interpretation, modeled by my favorite daughter (ok, so the other two are boys, she's still a good kid).
So fun, and so practical! And now that I have an idea of how it's done, I'm thinking about adding the ponytail treatment to all kinds of hats! I don't usually wear ponytails myself, but I might for a new hat!

Hello there,
Looking for a pony tail hat to crochet like the Hannah hat. Are there any patterns out there that you know of. Due to a handy cap I cannot knit or do my hair up any more so a pony tail hat would be perfect for me. Love your site!! Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you,
Suzanne

Hi Suzanne! Thanks for reading and commenting!
I haven't made a crocheted version of the ponytail hat, but I did find a couple of crocheted ponytail hats. You can take a look at them at the following links:

If you prefer to make one with a button opening like the Hannah hat, I think the best option might be to make a simple top down hat, and when you get to where the ponytail opening should be, start working back in forth in rows instead of in the round, without joining rows. Then a simple chain loop and a button on either side of the opening and you'll be all set. I hope this helps!
