One Skein - so many Treats!

The Ghost Treat Basket is a one skein pattern, using Bernat Blanket yarn! It works up super fast with this super bulky (6) yarn and a 7mm crochet hook. The only additional supply is the safety eyes - and you can swap them out for embroidered ones if you prefer!

When made in the same yarn, the Ghost Treat Basket is washable, dryable, and usable year after year!

Why You Should Make the Ghost Treat Basket

The Ghost Treat Basket is ready to bring a little Halloween fun to your home! With its friendly ghost shape and tall, roomy design, it’s perfect for holding candy, treats, toys, yarn, or whatever little things need a spooky-season home.

    Ghost Treat Basket

It’s also a fun way to add some handmade Halloween decor without making something that only has one use. Fill it with candy for trick-or-treaters, use it as a festive centerpiece, or keep it out for storing your spookiest crochet supplies year round!

    Ghost Treat Basket

And of course, it’s just plain fun to crochet! The ghost shape gives this basket plenty of personality, while the simple basket construction makes it a practical project you’ll want to use every fall.

    Ghost Treat Basket

Oh, and did I mention there is NO SEAMING!? The Ghost Treat Basket is made in one continuous piece, all worked from the Right Side, with just 2 ends to weave in when you're done.

    Ghost Treat Basket

The finished basket is double-walled so it's sturdy, strong, and stands up on its own even when totally empty - or upside down! Make one for yourself, or crochet a few to give as Halloween gifts or use as treat baskets for the whole family.

    NOTES:

When making this pattern, I decided to try out the "invisible join" that has recently gained popularity.

To do this, you remove the active loop from the hook, insert the hook through the top two loops of the first st of the rnd, reinsert the hook into the active loop, and then pull the active loop backwards through the top of the stitch.

I found that while it didn't have the same look as a standard sl st join, it still created a noticeable seam - just a different one. So use whichever join works best for you!

Rnd 26 creates two little "arms" on the Ghost. If you wish to skip the arms, simply skip the popcorn sts and hdc in each st around instead.

    Special Stitch:

Popcorn - Work 4 dc sts into indicated st, remove hook from active loop, insert hook in first dc made, then back into the active loop, pull active loop through top of first dc.

    Finishing and Assembly

Turn the basket Wrong Side out.

    Ghost Treat Basket

Fold the basket over itself at Rnd 19, so that the unused front loops show at the top edge of the basket and the RS of Rnd 33 is on the outside bottom.

    Ghost Treat Basket

Add Safety Eyes: Insert the eyes between Rnds 23 and 24, from the RS. Be sure to add them on the opposite side from the seam, and space them evenly between the Popcorn stitch arms. Only go through one layer of the basket, as seen above. Take a few moments to double-check the spacing of the eyes before adding the backs and making them permanent.
