Crochet Monsters Review
A Bit About the Author

Author Megan Lapp runs the Etsy shop Crafty Intentions, and it's full of fantastical designs, just like the ones seen in her books.
"Megan Lapp got her BA with a double-major in Art and Music from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, and hasn't stopped creating since. Her current work spans many artistic media, including crochet, sculpture, painting, and various fiber arts. She works daily in her studio. Megan lives with her husband, 13 year old son, and 11 year old daughter in Pennsylvania. In her spare time, Megan enjoys singing, playing piano, and doing all the voices when reading to her kids.
Megan won the Makezine Me, My Scarf and I Singer Contest in 2009 for an original scarf design. Her handmade plushes were a reward for the Kickstarter for Epyllion, A Dragon Epic, in 2015. She was a runner-up in the worldwide Amigurumi Patterns design contest in 2017 for her Original Dragon Pattern design. Megan has been publishing original patterns on Etsy and Ravelry since 2017."
Her shop is full of delights - and sure to make your dreams soar! There are dozens of wonderful creatures, but there are also a couple of shawls that are the kind of costume pieces you wish you could wear every day and live your own magical fairy tale!
Never Make the Same Monster Twice
This might be one of the thickest crochet books I own! At a whopping 360 pages, there is so much to explore!

"With more than 35 Monster body options, plus myriad variations for limbs, mouths and teeth, horns, antennae, tails, scales, and so much more, you will never make the same Monster twice. Choose from wide open mouths with fangs to adorable Monsters with bunny ears and a cat tail to Monsters with hair poufs and scales. Make one-eyed spiders or three-eyed aliens, dragons with scales or little friends that don’t match any known monster to date. There is nearly no limit to the variations you can combine!"

Debuting just this month, Crochet Monsters is a choose-your-own-adventure style book that feeds your imagination and creativity. You start by picking the body - open mouth, blob style, cylinder, egg shaped, square, or eyeball - there are a bunch for each!

Then, it's time to pick your eyes! Choose your mouth, feet, limbs, scales, tails, ears, antennae, and horns!

Oh, and don't forget the hair, teeth, belly, claws, tongue, and all the other options!

Inside Crochet Monsters
The vast majority of crochet pattern books include pages of "how to crochet" type info and other extras. This book, despite its length, dives right in!

There are just a few extra pages, with all the important info. There's a section that explains how to use the book, and details on supplies. After a few great tips and tricks, there's a handy Monster Planning Sheet you'll want to make copies of.

Of course, there are a few pages with all the abbreviations used and their definitions. Then it's time to dive in on the patterns - I counted 165 different bits to mix and match! Wow!

All the projects in Crochet Monsters are made with worsted/medium/4 weight yarn, although the teeth are shown in sport/2 weight. Megan used 4mm and 3.25mm crochet hooks, and safety eyes ranging from 24 - 40 mm. There are a few other unique supplies she recommends, including fiberfill, wire, and plastic canvas - but it just depends on who and what you decide to make!

I don't know how she does it - Megan just keeps them coming! There's even a sneak peek teaser in the back of this book - I can't wait to see what's coming next!
