Crochet Creatures of Myth and Legend Review
A Bit About the Author
Author Megan Lapp runs the Etsy shop Crafty Intentions, and it’s full of amazing, fantastical designs, just like the ones seen in this book. Here’s how she describes her shop:
“Fantasy creatures, beautiful animals, clearly written and formatted patterns, step by step photo tutorials, for handmade magic! Detailed glossaries, materials lists, and extremely clear instructions to ensure your success in creating these epic crocheted creations!”
Looking through her shop is so inspiring, and such a delight. There are dozens of wonderful creatures, but there are also a couple of shawls that are the kind of costume pieces you wish you could wear every day and live your own magical fairy tale!
19 Amazing and Astonishing Amigurumi
One of the first things I noticed about Crochet Creatures of Myth and Legend was the gorgeous printing and heft of it – this book has some weight! And that’s because it’s chock full of step-by-step details and great tips.
And while there is an important and informative stitch glossary at the front, it doesn’t waste time trying to teach you to crochet again. For this book, you’re going to want to have a little bit of experience stitching under your belt.
Because wow… just wow! Each turn of the page is so pleasing. There are so many full-color photos to help you through every step of each design. Blue boxed contain helpful notes and hints as well.
I would say that the instructions are not written out in the standard format, but in a shortened format that is popular with amigurumi designers. And it makes sense for projects like this, where you are making unusual moves and shapes, and stopping every so often to do a bit of sewing or attaching!
All the projects are made with worsted weight yarn and a US-G, 4mm crochet book. Megan has a few suggestions, including Red Heart Super Saver. But I think these designs would be just as amazing in a thread – or jumbo yarn! If you or someone you love is into fantasy creatures, Crochet Creatures of Myth and Legend is a must-have for your crochet bookshelf!
