It's been months in the making, but at long last the pattern has been written, tested by wonderful crocheters, and the Sven Sweater is ready for sale!
It's been an exciting journey - one that began when I had my own little boys and realized just how many crochet baby sweaters were only for girls. This sweater is definitely for boys. And for girls! It's all in the colors. The pattern was inspired by a blanket I saw at a Swedish furnishings store over the summer - it was bold and graphic and had a great look. One that begged to be translated to crochet!
Figuring out how to put it all together was a learning process for me, and inspired me to make the Tapestry Crochet Video, to explain one of the techniques used in the sweater. It's this technique that has led me to label it as Intermediate difficulty, but I do think that a determined beginner could do a great job with it as well.
Because it is unique, detailed, and well tested, I've decided to make this my first paid pattern, for just $3.99. I hope you'll agree that it's worth it. It's sized 0 - 6 months, and is the perfect crochet pattern to make for any baby boy or girl. The Sven Sweater pattern is in PDF format, and available on Craftsy and as a Ravelry download.
Thanks so much for all your support and excitement about my past patterns - and don't worry, the free patterns will continue! But I hope to add more special, paid patterns in the future too. And I want to give a special thanks to all my testers, as well as those who volunteered - I couldn't have done it without you!

Thank you so much! 😀

Awesome! I felt the same way about crochet sweaters and boys. I tried to imagine them in boy colors, but they still look girls because of the stitching. Hoping to do this in December/January as my "final weeks of pregnancy" project.

Thanks Jennifer! I hope you enjoy the pattern - and congratulations!

Lovely ! The colors and the pattern !
Thanks for the visit.
Have a nice evening.

Sara - My Merry Messy Life
I saw you post this on Facebook and it really caught my eye - the color choices are perfect and so beautiful! Might just have to make this for our little baby boy due in a few months!

Thanks Sarah! 😀

Very cute. I love the little hood, and I do think that those colours would suit girls as well as boys. But I did put my daughter in a babygro covered with cars.
moogly
Yes, these colors are pretty neutral, aren't they? But of course I expect people will use all sorts of colors when they make their own - and I can't wait to see them! 😀
George
Wow this is just gorgeous. I want one for myself! Are you planning on making it available in larger sizes? I don't know any little ones that little, but I do know some slightly older kidlets that would look lovely in a Sven Sweater!
moogly
Hi George! I do plan to expand the size range somewhat, though probably not to adults. What sizes are you looking for?
George
I know and eighteen-month-old and a three-year-old I'd love to make sweaters for, thought I'm tempted just to make one anyone and see if I can find a home for it after!
moogly
Thanks George! It helps me to know what people are looking for, so I have some goals to work towards. 🙂

I too am hoping you will develop the size range. I have a 3 y/o grand-daughter who is wearing a size 6x right now. She would sure look adorable in this sweater!
moogly
I do plan to, as soon as things slow down a bit here at home. 🙂
Kym
I would love to buy the pattern but could you email me .. I would have to make it bigger my son is size 4t to 5 t he is 4 years old .. What would I need to do .. Or do you have other pattern and where would I find them thank you very much
Tamara Kelly
Hi Kym! That's a lot of upsizing, and while it's do-able I don't currently have the numbers for that. I don't have any patterns in that size currently available, but I can see there's a lot of demand and I'm working on upsizing the patterns one size a time!
Julie
Great pattern! I switched up the colors and added a lining for my 3 week old nephew. Can't wait to try it on him!
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you Julie, so glad you liked it!
Melissa Martin
Just bought the pattern and can't wait to make it for my great nephew. So glad you posted bigger sizes so I could do it. You are so talented and I have loved every one of your patterns I have tried. Congrats on your latest award! You certainly deserve it.
Tamara Kelly
Thank you so much Melissa! I appreciate you saying so! 😀

I finished the sweater! As usual you wrote a great, easy to follow pattern. I love the fact that you leave out most sewing. Ugh.....I hate that part! I did a different little boy cardigan recently that required every piece to be sewn. Here's the pic for you....hope I did it justice. 🙂 https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=548115308616576&set=a.535286526566121.1073741828.534853043276136&type=1&theater

I love it Melissa! The crayon theme is perfect!
Melody Slachter
Good Morning,
I purchased your pattern and am excited to get started, but am wondering about the size 0-6 months size you mention above. That is the size I really need, but the pattern starts at size 6 months and goes up from there. Do I need to purchase a different pattern to get the size 0-6 months?
Thank you so much for your help!
Blessings,
Melody
Tamara Kelly
The 6 month size is 0-6 mths - sorry for any confusion there! I just put 6 mths to save space on the pattern. 🙂
Melody Slachter
Thank you so much! I love the pattern - decided to just use a smaller hook. It's turning out SO cute!!
maite
Hi!. I love your patterns, your videos, your comments... Thank you for everything!!
My question is: Do you have more paid patterns?
Thanks in advance.
maite
Tamara Kelly
Hello maite! This is the only one, I'm afraid - all the rest are free! I hope to add more someday, it's always just a matter of finding the time... 🙂
Amanda
is this the only paid program? I am having a hard time figuring out how to navigate
Tamara Kelly
Hi Amanda! Yes, this is currently the only paid pattern on Moogly! 🙂 I hope to add more in the future, but for now the rest are all free!
linda
I was wondering if you sold crochet patterns for other people and kept a commission on each one sold? If you do how does it work and how do you see that the person who made the pattern get paid? Also, how do the person send what you need to get it listed on your site? I hope you understand what I am asking. Nothing is illegal of what I am asking no one will get into trouble . I would like for you to sell my patterns on your site I just don't know how to do it. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Linda
Tamara Kelly
Hi Linda! I don't actually sell my patterns directly - I use Ravelry and Craftsy. Both are excellent venues to sell patterns! 🙂
SILVIA
beautiful combination of colors for the boy sweater. i am getting tired of baby pastel colors. thanks.
Tamara Kelly
🙂 I'm glad you like it! Thank you!
Grazia
Do you think I could use Debbie bliss baby casmerino yarn for this sweater? I was gifted enough to ale your sweater.
Tamara Kelly
Hi Grazia! I'm afraid Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino is a Sport, or "2" weight, while the pattern calls for a worsted/aran or "4" weight. You can use it, but it'll turn out smaller - you might want to follow the directions for the next size up.
Miriam
I love this pattern!! I see from the above comments that you were planning to upsize this pattern and I was wondering if that was available? My little boy would need a 2T-3T. I would love to try this pattern, I have as yet been unsuccessful in making sweaters but I'm willing to give it another go! Thanks for all your hard work with your blog! 🙂
Tamara Kelly
Right now it's available in 0-6 months; 6-12 months; 18 mths; 2T 🙂
Beryl Skog
HI Tamara,
I love this sweater and would be happy to purchase it from you. I would prefer to purchase directly from you but cannot find the "buy now" button??Can you help?
Thanks,
Beryl
Tamara Kelly
Hi Beryl! I'm afraid I haven't sold finished items for several years. If I've misunderstood and you meant the pattern, I don't have my own shopping cart, so you'd need to go through Ravelry or Craftsy. 🙂
Michelle
Hi I am having a little bit of a hard time understanding the9/11,10-11/12-13not quite sure what I am suppose to be doing, please help!
Tamara Kelly
Hi Michelle! I emailed you, I believe! 🙂
