    Sven Sweater

    Published: Oct 23, 2012 · Modified: Jun 26, 2019 by Tamara Kelly · 43 Comments

It's been months in the making, but at long last the pattern has been written, tested by wonderful crocheters, and the Sven Sweater is ready for sale!

It's been an exciting journey - one that began when I had my own little boys and realized just how many crochet baby sweaters were only for girls. This sweater is definitely for boys. And for girls! It's all in the colors. The pattern was inspired by a blanket I saw at a Swedish furnishings store over the summer - it was bold and graphic and had a great look. One that begged to be translated to crochet!

Figuring out how to put it all together was a learning process for me, and inspired me to make the Tapestry Crochet Video, to explain one of the techniques used in the sweater. It's this technique that has led me to label it as Intermediate difficulty, but I do think that a determined beginner could do a great job with it as well.

sven sweater baby cardigan pattern crochet baby sweater baby crochet patternBecause it is unique, detailed, and well tested, I've decided to make this my first paid pattern, for just $3.99. I hope you'll agree that it's worth it. It's sized 0 - 6 months, and is the perfect crochet pattern to make for any baby boy or girl. The Sven Sweater pattern is in PDF format, and available on Craftsy and as a Ravelry download. sven sweater crochet baby cardigan pattern baby sweater crochet pattern

Thanks so much for all your support and excitement about my past patterns - and don't worry, the free patterns will continue! But I hope to add more special, paid patterns in the future too. And I want to give a special thanks to all my testers, as well as those who volunteered - I couldn't have done it without you!

Awesome! I felt the same way about crochet sweaters and boys. I tried to imagine them in boy colors, but they still look girls because of the stitching. Hoping to do this in December/January as my "final weeks of pregnancy" project.

Very cute. I love the little hood, and I do think that those colours would suit girls as well as boys. But I did put my daughter in a babygro covered with cars.

Yes, these colors are pretty neutral, aren't they? But of course I expect people will use all sorts of colors when they make their own - and I can't wait to see them! 😀

Wow this is just gorgeous. I want one for myself! Are you planning on making it available in larger sizes? I don't know any little ones that little, but I do know some slightly older kidlets that would look lovely in a Sven Sweater!

Hi George! I do plan to expand the size range somewhat, though probably not to adults. What sizes are you looking for?

I know and eighteen-month-old and a three-year-old I'd love to make sweaters for, thought I'm tempted just to make one anyone and see if I can find a home for it after!

Hi Kym! That's a lot of upsizing, and while it's do-able I don't currently have the numbers for that. I don't have any patterns in that size currently available, but I can see there's a lot of demand and I'm working on upsizing the patterns one size a time!

I finished the sweater! As usual you wrote a great, easy to follow pattern. I love the fact that you leave out most sewing. Ugh.....I hate that part! I did a different little boy cardigan recently that required every piece to be sewn. Here's the pic for you....hope I did it justice. 🙂 https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=548115308616576&set=a.535286526566121.1073741828.534853043276136&type=1&theater

      Good Morning,

I purchased your pattern and am excited to get started, but am wondering about the size 0-6 months size you mention above. That is the size I really need, but the pattern starts at size 6 months and goes up from there. Do I need to purchase a different pattern to get the size 0-6 months?

Thank you so much for your help!

      Blessings,
      Melody

The 6 month size is 0-6 mths - sorry for any confusion there! I just put 6 mths to save space on the pattern. 🙂

I was wondering if you sold crochet patterns for other people and kept a commission on each one sold? If you do how does it work and how do you see that the person who made the pattern get paid? Also, how do the person send what you need to get it listed on your site? I hope you understand what I am asking. Nothing is illegal of what I am asking no one will get into trouble . I would like for you to sell my patterns on your site I just don't know how to do it. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Linda

Hi Grazia! I'm afraid Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino is a Sport, or "2" weight, while the pattern calls for a worsted/aran or "4" weight. You can use it, but it'll turn out smaller - you might want to follow the directions for the next size up.

I love this pattern!! I see from the above comments that you were planning to upsize this pattern and I was wondering if that was available? My little boy would need a 2T-3T. I would love to try this pattern, I have as yet been unsuccessful in making sweaters but I'm willing to give it another go! Thanks for all your hard work with your blog! 🙂

Hi Beryl! I'm afraid I haven't sold finished items for several years. If I've misunderstood and you meant the pattern, I don't have my own shopping cart, so you'd need to go through Ravelry or Craftsy. 🙂
