The kids are heading back to school, the temps are (finally!) starting to drop - must be time for August 2016's Designer Showcase! I like to wrap up each month by having one of my fellow designers share a bit about themselves, and then I follow it up by sharing my 5 favorite free patterns that they've designed! This month I get to share some of the fantastic designs from the lovely Bethany Dearden - blogger and designer behind Whistle & Ivy!
Bethany's site is gorgeous, and chock full of crafty inspiration! Here's a bit more about her in her own words:
Hi! I’m Bethany and I blog at Whistle and Ivy, a creative crochet blog. I originally learned to crochet in a children’s after-school program in 3rd grade. I was the only student who chose the crochet class, and I loved my instructor. I worked very hard on a peach-colored granny square babyghan, which won a blue ribbon at the local fair!
I never crocheted after that until I became pregnant with my first child, over 15 years later. Nesting kicked in hard as I attempted to make my son a cute earflap hat. I did, in fact, crochet him a hat, but it was not wearable due to my rookie tight gauge.
Even though my project didn’t work out, I decided that I loved crochet and wanted to do more. I had previously started a creative blog, which was a potpourri of crafts, recipes and other endeavors, but after a few years of blogging, I realized that crochet owned my heart, and began wholly devoting myself to crochet and crochet designing. I love the friendships and connections I have made through crochet and blogging, and I love working at home with my sweet and loving four-year- old, and my boisterous and sassy two-year- old.
