A Year of Crochet Stitches Review
A Bit About the Author
"Jill Wright is a digital copywriting specialist and crochet and knitwear designer raising her family in the foothills of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. Life is writing, planning, strategizing, and teaching Jazzercise classes, with lots of driving intermingled. There’s also a sprinkling of singing both with a local chorale and in church. Busy? Yes! But she wouldn’t have it any other way."
You can see many of Jill's crochet designs on Ravelry.com, and she co-authored Curvy Crochet with Marly Bird!
What You'll Find Inside the Crochet Perpetual Calendar
A Year of Crochet Stitches is a perpetual flip calendar - which means that while there is a page for January 1, January 2, January 3... on through the rest of the year, there is no day of the week or year listed. So when you get to December 31st, you can just flip it around and start over again!
Almost every stitch fits on one side of the paper and includes a great color photo of the stitch pattern, the stitch multiple, and the written instructions. Succinct, but includes everything you need! While calendars are normally split into months, this one uses each month to tackle a specific type of stitch pattern. In the crochet version you'll find: Simple Stitches; Bobbles and Puffs; Shells and Clusters; Ripples and Zigzags; Columns and Stripes; Mesh, V-Stitches and Filet; More Shells and V-Stitches; Motifs; Popcorns and Picots; Post Stitches and Cables; Colorwork and Dropped Stitches; and Edgings or Borders.
However, they have not wasted the other side of the paper. Paging through, the last page would seem to be for July 11 - but then you turn it around and there's the rest of the year, on the backs of the pages! Of course, having the "flip" in July means there are still more pages left - and they used those too!
Not just stitch patterns, A Year of Crochet Stitches includes gauge swatching instructions and pattern "recipes." Written for shawls and cowls, these encourage you to take your favorite stitch patterns for the year and put them into fab original accessories! Info on joining motifs lets you turn all your swatches into blankets, sweaters, and more. Finally, there's a section on choosing the perfect yarn and a list of standard abbreviations.

What You'll Find Inside the Knitting Perpetual Calendar
Just like A Year of Crochet Stitches, A Year of Knitting Stitches is a perpetual calendar, with no days of the week or years - so you can use it for years to come!
This calendar is set up just like the crochet one as well, with each page featuring a detailed color photo of the stitch pattern, the stitch multiple, and the written instructions. It's basically the same format, just with a few differences. In A Year of Knitting Stitches, the months aren't divided by stitch type, but I spot tons of texture, cables, lace, mosaics, stripes, fair isle, and more!
One extra thing you'd find in A Year of Knitting Stitches is a link on January 1 to charts for all the stitch patterns! After the year is over, there are many of the same great sections found in the Crochet version.
Gauge swatching instructions, as well as shawl and cowl recipes, are included. Then at the very end, you'll find pages on choosing the perfect yarn and a list of standard abbreviations.

One more thing I really want to highlight is the great quality of these calendars. The paper is not cardstock, but not wimpy either. The spiral at the top is really strong, sturdy, and big. And the stand that holds it all upright is pretty darn heavy-duty as well. It won't survive a swim, but it should make it through several years on your craft table!
These calendars make the perfect gift for yourself or a friend (or two) who loves to crochet or knit! The handy size is perfect on the desk or on the go, fitting easily in a project bag. These calendars are inspiration at your fingertips whenever you need it. And it never expires - you can use this perpetual calendar year after year! You can get a peek at a live unboxing of both here!

I do have a question for you guys. I've participated in a couple of these before. How do you know who won. Are the winners announced in email, site, or ig?
Velma Johnson
Where can I buy the crochet and/or knitting book if I don't win?

That's a great question. Because all I've been getting is a lot of unnecessary emails. I would like to know the answer as well.

I love the look of these. Stitch diagrams for crochet and included charts for crochet, would be nice, though. Maybe in version 2.0.

If you have a Canadian or US address we can mail to, that works! Unfortunately, shipping from the US to other countries is super expensive.
