Odds Are Shawl: Moogly January 2025 Crochet Along

The Odds Are Shawl is a soft, luxurious, one-skein crochet pattern! Worked in rows with a mixture of textured stitches, it's a joy to stitch and the perfect gentle start to the year. This pattern is being shared here on Moogly as a free crochet along over the month of January 2025!

This pattern is now complete! Prefer to get the whole pattern as an ad-free PDF? You've got options! Otherwise, keep scrolling for the free version below!

How the Odds Are Shawl Crochet Along Works

Over the next 4 weeks of January 2025, I will post sections of the Odds Are Shawl crochet pattern. Each post will go live at 10 am Central US time, barring technical difficulties. There will also be a video tutorial for each section, shared in both right and left-handed versions. These posts will be right here on mooglyblog.com, and free for all! On your end, all you need to do is make the pattern - no need to sweat the deadline, take your time! Odds are, you'll love it!

The Yarn for the Odds Are Shawl

To make this crochet shawl, I used Caron Colorama Halo Perfect Phasing yarn - just one skein! So this is a wonderful project with which to give it a try. This pattern shows off the beauty of this yarn's truly perfect gradient or ombre. And when you're all finished, there are just 2 ends to weave in! This yarn is available on Yarnspirations.com and on Amazon.com.

    Caron Colorama Halo Perfect Phasing

When I was trying to decide which color to use... I couldn't! So after a little internet polling, I narrowed it down to two. The first version I made features the Lavender Frost colorway, which I took with me on my Craftours trip to England. I quickly fell in love with the stitches and found it to be the perfect meditative project for on the road or relaxing with after a long day.

    Caron Colorama Halo Perfect Phasing

After I got home, I remade it and refined it a bit while making another one, using the Tin and Tan colorway! We were able to film that one as I made it, so there will be very thorough video tutorials for each section, and you'll see how this colorway changes throughout. I can't wait to see it in even more colors - and even other yarns!

The Hook for the Odds Are Shawl

For the hook, I will be using a Susan Bates US-K, 6.5 mm Twist and Lock hook. Gauge isn't really important for this pattern, so if you find that you prefer the fabric you get with a J or even an L hook, feel free to use that instead! This is a fuzzy yarn, so you'll want to make sure it's comfortable for you.

I really like this shawl in both colorways. It's going to be hard choosing a color.

I would love to do this CAL. It’s a beautiful shawl with some interesting stitches. But I almost never wear shawls made with bulky or even size 4 yarn, because I get too warm, and I wouldn’t have anyone to give it to. How would it work up in a finer yarn, either using an appropriate size hook or using a larger hook for a lacier look? And if I did it in a size 2 or 3 yarn, how difficult would it be to add rows to make it large enough?

This pattern is super easy to adjust in that way - you can just repeat the sections til you have the size you like!
