It’s time to start the Winter 2015 Mini Crochet-Along on Moogly! We’re making the Madly In Love Infinity Scarf/Cowl – both options are included!

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you can read the previous post HERE, or just jump in and read on!
To make the Madly In Love Infinity Scarf I used 1150 yds LB Collection Superwash Merino in Persimmon, which is a Light “3” or DK/8 ply yarn. You can purchase it directly from Lion Brand HERE. For a shorter cowl version you’ll need 575 yds. I also used three 1.5″ buttons, and a Furls US – H, 5.0 mm hook.
But one of the great things about scarves and cowls is that you can play with yarn weight all you want and as long as you make it the right length, you’re golden. So if you want to make it with worsted weight yarn or even bulky, feel free. I can’t wait to see what you all come up with! I have some great suggestions HERE.
In order to make the pattern as easy as possible to read, I have set up a separate pattern page. It has the first half of the pattern on it now, and I’ll add the second half next Friday! That way the pattern will be all on one page for those who want to make it at a later date. And so….

WOOHOO!!!! I’m going to start this before I start block 3 from the CAL!! Lol
Darlene
Is anyone else having issues opening the link?
KRIS w
I am also having problems with the link. It just redirects back to the blog post.
Linda D.
Yes the link opens the same post.
Melissa
yes! 🙁
Tamara Kelly
So.. this is super awkward. This post wasn’t supposed to go live until tomorrow morning! I’m not sure what I accidentally clicked to make it go, but I guess we’ll be starting a few hours early lol! 🙂 The link should be live now – in for a penny, in for a pound!
Linda D.
Thanks!!!! The CAL Block three is really a challenge. Got the gauge. Just cannot nail the color change smoothly. Needed to put it down.
Donna
I can’t get past the PDF converter page. I already have this program but I can’t access the pattern. Is there another way? I don’t want to reload it because it caused a problem last time.
Tamara Kelly
Did you click the all caps “CLICK HERE” message at the bottom of the post? That will take you to the pattern, where you can use the print friendly button to print it. 🙂
Cathy K
Glad to know I’m not crazy! Keep coming back to the first page when I click the link! I’m sure Tamara will get it fixed soon 🙂
Tamara Kelly
All Fixed! 🙂
Niko niko
Hi Tamara,
Looks like the link to the pattern page has been mixed up.
When we click the “CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE MADLY IN LOVE PATTERN”, it opens up the same page…
Hope you will fix it soon !!! 🙂 Thanks !!!
Tamara Kelly
Fixed! 🙂
Niko niko
Thanks Tamara !!!
I always prefer to read the pattern fully before starting. And so, I wanted to make sure that the beginning Chain 46 is the width of the scarf. In case I want it wider or narrower (since I will not be using the same yarn as yours), how many multiples of chains should the beginning chain consist of ?
Tamara Kelly
Hi Niko! Yes, you’re working the width with the ch 46. 🙂 To change the width, add or subtract any even number.
niko
Thanks Tamara !
That’s a simple math 🙂 Should get started now before you disclose the second half of the pattern !
Tamara Kelly
😀 I hope you enjoy it!
PAULA
I did I thought coundt find it.
Jodi
I’m so excited!!! The cal is going great and I am eagerly awaiting the email reminders as they show up! Its like a present in my mailbox! Lol
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thanks Jodi!
Nathalie
If I don’t master the puff stitch after this, I never will!!! Thank you so much Tamara for doing this, for sharing your wonderful design and for teaching us so well. I had 4 skeins of Lion Brand Baby Soft in Melon I had bought on implulse over 10 years ago, but never figure out something to so with it… It is perfect for this infinity scarf – I might even have some left for a matching hat!
Tamara Kelly
Thank you so much Nathalie! I think my own puff stitch skills improved by the end too! 😀
Katie
Approximately how wide is the scarf in inches? I too am using a different weight yarn, and I’d like it to be about the same size.
I see the lengths listed but not the width? (Other than 46 chains)
nathalie
Katie, I am using a different yarn too, but it has the same weight/gauge. The width of my scarf is 10 inches, if that helps you.
Tamara Kelly
Hi Katie! It’s about 10 inches wide. 🙂
Katie
Thanks, that will be helpful. I can’t wait to start this project. I promised myself I’d finish some housework first, so hopefully I’ll try it this weekend.
Lorraine
The photo is that showing the cowl
Tamara Kelly
The photo on this page shows the infinity scarf, but if you click the link to the pattern you can see the cowl as well. 🙂
carly
Is the third, last picture on the pattern page the cowl length? I like the looks of that one and want to make sure I make it the right length. Thanks!
Tamara Kelly
That one is the infinity scarf tripled! The one in the middle is the cowl. 🙂
Kim
Hi Tamara,
Thank you so much for this beautiful pattern and the opportunity to follow along! I plan on making the cowl and have a question about the length. Is it long enough to wrap another time to make it fit more snugly?Judging by the photo it is but I just wanted to be sure before I decide which length to choose.
Thanks SO much!
Tamara Kelly
The cowl would be a really tight fit wrapped twice, as it will be less than 38 inches long total. You can make part 1 any length you like though. 🙂
Kim
Ahhhh…perfect. Easy enough! Thank you so much, Tamara! 🙂
Tamara Kelly
😀
Heidi
Starting right now!
Linda D.
Hi Tamara! Love this. I am going to do both a scarf and a cowl. Birthday presents. I also went for the jewel tones. One will be a Blue (Hawaiian sky) and the other purple tones. Now all I need to do is find the right buttons! Thanks for this.
Tamara Kelly
Ooo, they sound lovely! 😀
Megan
Hi Tamara! Love this scarf! Do you happen to know what percentage of the yarn each part will use? Is it 50/50 or does the puff section use a higher percentage? I’m using a different weight yarn so I’m trying to determine if I’ll have enough.
Tamara Kelly
The Puff Stitch is a bit of a yarn eater! Part 2 is quite a bit smaller and quicker. 🙂
Katie
Is the picture the cowl or the infinity scarf? I honestly didn’t know there was a difference.
Tamara Kelly
This is the infinity scarf. The cowl is shorter – not long enough to be doubled. 🙂 But the fun of this pattern is that those numbers are really just suggestions – you can make it as long or as short as you like!
Misti
This is my first CAL & I’m excited to “play” along! 🙂 I’m pretty new to crochet & definitely new to the puff stitch. I seem to be having a bit of an issue when it comes time to end the row, turn & start a new row. Would you possibly be able to film a short video on just that bit? I totally understand if you can’t, just thought I’d ask. 😉 I look forward to seeing how the cowl comes together!
Tamara Kelly
I’ll see what I can do Misti! 🙂
Misti
I should have come back & said I figured it out! 🙂 I’m loving this pattern & can’t wait to get the next part of the pattern! Thank you!!!
Tamara Kelly
😀 I’m so glad to hear it!
Erin
Aargh!!!! You’ve got to stop making such addictively cute patterns! (Dropping what I’m doing to run out and get yarn for this.) I’m gathering such a backlog of projects to do, since I keep abandoning my other plans to make things I see on your site.
Before I do, though, is the photo of the cowl or the scarf? (Trying to decide how much yarn I need.)
Tamara Kelly
The photo on this page is the scarf length. The cowl isn’t really long enough to wrap around again. But you can go for any length you want, really! 🙂 Thanks!
Filly
I love this cowl. I’m in …… I don’t have anything red.
Tamara Kelly
🙂 I’m sure you’ll pick a great color! Welcome!
Alison
I love the look of the Madly in Love CAL, but am having issues with the puff stitch. Is the chain that you finish off the puff stitch with the ch 1 between puff stitches or do you do the puff stitch, finish it with a chain and then chain 1? Thanks so much. I’m using a worsted weight in a claret colour.
Alison
I think I have answered my own question. You don’t add a ch 1, it’s the ch 1 that you close the puff stitch with. I moved up to a 6mm hook and now it looks right and not so dense. I’m excited to see where this CAL goes!! Thanks for a great pattern as always.
Tamara Kelly
You could look at it either way I suppose! 🙂 I’m glad it’s working for you!
Sara
Wow, I love the look of this scarf! I’ve got just the right yarn at home in my stash too! I’ll have to work this one up for sure!
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you!
Bekah
Getting ready to order the yarn for this, but was wondering how many skeins you used?? I see it says 1150, which translates to 13 skeins per Joann Fabrics info on the yarn. Just want to make sure I order the right amount!
Tamara Kelly
It depends what yarn brand you use, for the LB Collection Superwash Merino it was less than 4 skeins. 🙂
Tyrena
Just finished my infinity scarf waiting on buttons. I made the main color Buff Chamois Bufalo and the braid black.loved this pattern.
Tamara Kelly
Sounds like an amazing color combo! I’m so glad you enjoyed it Tyrena! 😀 Thank you!
