The Moogly Afghan Crochet-A-Long is hopping, with lots of great crochet patterns still to come. But what about the knitters? There are lots of knit blocks out there too, and some really lovely ones! Here are 10 free knit afghan square patterns!

- A Dozen Hearts by Melissa Hahn, on Ravelry: This 8" square is so sweet, without being saccharine!

- Dot-to-Dot Blanket Square by Ann Kingstone, on Ravelry: I love the graphic design of this 8" square - and you'll see the same great pattern pop up as part of her Lanthir Lamath hooded scarf, which is incredibly gorgeous!

- Illusion Circle by Steve Plummer, on Woolly Thoughts: If you've thought about trying illusion knitting, here's your chance! The pattern only shows up at a particular angle!

- Hurricane Sandy Whirly 9" Afghan Block, by Margaret MacInnis, on Ravelry: Okay, basically you should just look at her entire catalog - gorgeousness everywhere!

I've never knit a blanket bigger than a baby blanket - while I love knitting, I'm just too slow! But maybe a block at a time... Have you made a knit block afghan or blanket before? What's your favorite square?

This post is perfect timing for me. I am re-learning to knit--it's been over 40 yrs since I made my last knit project. I've made some swatches of basic stitches, but am ready to try something more difficult. Thank you for the inspiration.

Thanks for the ideas--a very eye-catching round-up!
I finished off a knit blanket my grandma started before she died, but other than that, I've never knitted a full blanket either. So far I've reserved knitting mostly for hats, scarves, and dishcoths. But that Lucky 4-Leaf block above just might change my mind. Hey, look, it's a 12" block, too! Hmm...combine with crochet? That could become part of my Moogly Crochet-Along afghan since I opted out of the third block. 🙂

What yarn do you typically use to make a mandala? Thanks for all you do
Tamara Kelly says
Any yarn you like! I like to use cotton for ones I'll use on the dining table under hot dishes, but you can use any yarn at all otherwise. 🙂

How can you save the patterns please
Tamara Kelly says
Since each of these is on a different page, they may have different options available. But if you go to PrintFriendly.com and enter the URL, you'd be able to create a downloadable PDF for personal use. 🙂
