It’s time for November’s Designer Showcase! I like to wrap up each month by having one of my favorite designers share a bit about themselves, and then I follow it up by sharing my 5 favorite free patterns that they’ve designed! This month I’m pleased to share some things from the talented Katy Petersen – the blogger and designer behind KT and the Squid!
Katy’s designs are gorgeous and wearable, and you must check out her paid patterns as well! And I’m so happy to be able to feature her here today! Here’s a little about Katy:
For as long as I can remember I’ve always tried to make things. As a kid I tried several crafts so naturally, I taught myself to crochet and knit. Although I really enjoyed it, I had no idea I would grow up to do it as a living.
In 2007 I got my BS in Kinesiology and was a personal trainer/gymnastics instructor for a while but it’s not where my heart was. I liked the work but I didn’t really love it. In 2009 I found myself home with a baby and decided to pick up my hooks and needles again. For a few years I ran pretty successful business selling finished items. Again, I liked the work but there was something missing. After burning out on orders I realized it was the creative process I enjoyed most so in 2012 I slowly tried my hand at designing a few simple things. In 2014 I decided to stop taking orders and dove into designing. It didn’t take long for me to find what I love and that was designing garments.
These last couple years I have devoted myself to learning everything I can about crochet and designing. Everything from garment construction to yarn spinning. I’m obsessed! It’s amazing what joy you can find when you’re doing something you love.

When changing yarn color in the middle of a row, what do yo do with the yarn ? Do you crochet over the color not being used?
Tamara Kelly
You can, or you can cut and weave it in, or you can carry it along behind. 🙂

I absolutely LOVE the The Bailey Easy Top Down Sweater. I was wondering if you might have the pattern in larger sizes? My granddaughter is almost 4 months now and I know her mama would love this! It’s the cutest sweater I’ve seen! 🙂 I’m pretty good at following patterns, but not real great at adjusting them to different sizing.

I believe she does offer the larger sizes as a paid pattern: http://ktandthesquid.com/2014/10/09/bailey-sweater-pattern-release/ 🙂
