And that’s all there is to it! The yarn shown is Lion Brand Hometown USA, and the hook is a US – N, 10mm hook from Craftwich Creations, and I wound the skein up using my Stanwood 10oz Ball Winder – all items I recommend! For the written pattern, CLICK HERE – it links to both the hdc and seamless join tutorials that I mentioned in the video. I hope you’ve enjoyed this fun free crochet pattern and coffee cozy tutorial, and use it to put a smile on someone special’s face – including your own!

Lauren
This pattern and video is great! I was wondering if you had any advice for adding a bottom to it? Thanks so much
Tamara Kelly
Hi Lauren! Thank you! I would make a circle of hdc in the usual way and sew it to the bottom! 🙂 Hdc circles usually start with 9-10 hdc, and then work out from there.
Lisa
I’m almost finished making one of these in our school colors for the colleague whose name I drew in secret Santa and I love it! (Hometown USA Boilermakers…black and gold)
When testing to make sure it would fit properly (my guage was 1/8” off until I stretched it slightly), I realized the bulky weight yarn made it difficult for my small hand to grip the cup. Do you have any advice for adapting the pattern to a lighter yarn like Lily Sugar’n’Cream?
Tamara Kelly
Hi Lisa! Thank you! We’re black and gold here too, but the Bulldogs! 😀
To use a thinner yarn, you’ll need to reduce the hook size to match, and add more stitches. I would recommend sitting down with an empty cup handy, and just chain til it’s long enough to go around your cup, and take a note of how many stitches that is. Then, work about 1/3 that number of stitches for the flap/handle, working as many rows as needed to cover your hand nicely. Then chain to add the other 2/3 of the stitches and go from there, adding more rows to match the flap.
🙂 Best of luck, and happy holidays! 😀
