My First Crochet Sweater Collection Review
A Bit About the Author

I first met Salena years ago - was it before her first book? I'm not sure, she's become such a prolific author and designer! Here's her author blurb:
"I learned to crochet at the age of 5 and haven't put my hook down since! I've published over 500 patterns, authored 16 crochet books, taught 2 courses with Craftsy, and launched the American Crochet Association. I currently live in Oregon with my cute family and loud dog."
Let's take a closer look at her newest book!

Inside
"Ready to make a crochet sweater you'll love to wear?
This book will show you how! With simple steps, clear instructions, and tons of encouragement, you'll learn exactly how to crochet sweaters that will fit, flatter, and feel amazing.
- 5 beautiful designs made for advanced beginner crocheters and up
- Includes a shrug (S & L), pullover (XS - XXL), no-sew sweater (XS - XXL), and two cardigans (S - XL)
- Crochet a swatch confidently and learn how to adjust according to your swatch
- Learn how to measure to fit your body, choose the perfect yarn, and care for your handmade sweater
- Create a gorgeous handmade gift for friends and family (or just for yourself!)
- Color photos of each finished piece
- 8.5 x 11 in (21.6 x 28 cm) pages make it easier to read the clear, written instructions
- Written and designed by humans, for humans!"

I love how Salena's books always get right to the important stuff! And this one includes a great section for anyone making their first sweater - a measuring and fit guide!

Another great thing about My First Crochet Sweater Collection is that all 5 of the patterns are show on two models - one an Extra Small, and the other a Large! I love being able to see how they look on different bodies - and how you can pick the size based on the fit you want.

The pattern instructions are well written in standard US format, and are very easy to understand. Each one also includes a schematic, so it's easy to see how they come together!

These are great patterns for beginner sweater makers, and each uses Yarnspirations yarns, including Red Heart Gemstone, Caron Blossom Cakes, Caron Simply Me, and Caron Simply Soft.

One thing to note is the sizing. The first pattern lists only 3 sizes - but take a closer look. The "Large" has a 62" bust! The smallest size has a 50" bust so we know that it's meant to be oversized, but it also has lots of wiggle room. I usually wear an extra large, but I can see that both the medium and large would fit in this one - and I can decide which to make based on the fit I want.
