It’s time for January’s Designer Showcase! Once a month I have one of my favorite designers share a bit about themselves, and then I follow it up by sharing my 5 favorite free patterns that they’ve designed! This month I’m excited to share some things from the lovely Elena Hunt - the blogger and designer behind Beatrice Ryan Designs!
Elena (not Beatrice!) has been designing crochet patterns for just a couple of years, but I love her designs! Here's what she has to say:
Hi,
My name is Elena, I am the designer and blogger from Beatrice Ryan Designs... You may be wondering where the blog name came from... I learned to crochet over 40 years ago from my Grandmother ~ Beatrice Ryan Ramshaw... A tiny Irish powerhouse who crocheted like a whirlwind! The first project she taught me was a deep purple(my favorite color) Granny Square Blanket... That was it, I was hooked(haha)!
As a young mother I got the bug to start using this skill for more than just Granny Squares and Scarves,, So I taught myself to read patterns... Back then, there were no video tutorials or internet help was a part of our daily lives... So, I asked a co-worker to guide me with the in's and out's of pattern reading. Off I went, crocheting fancy afghans, doilies, layette sets and much more.. As the years past, my skills grew and we found the internet!
So, here is the story of my blogging life! 2 years ago I decided to branch out and see if my love of writing and crocheting would be of interest to anyone else and find a way to connect with others who had the same love of crochet as me... I started off by just blogging about my own
projects and life... Very quickly I made some life long friends who were on the same journey as myself (you know who you are dear friends)! After a couple of months of crochet blogging I put myself out there and took a chance on publishing my first pattern(so scary),Twisted Stitches CoffeeCozy...
I was off and running,,, Now I have over 30 Free Patterns and have a full line of crochet designs dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness ~ Amazing Grace Free Crochet Pattern Series! This series is dedicated to my dearest friend Sandra Kay Gilb who lost her life in 2007 to this heart wrenching disease.
I also have a regular Crochet~A~Long segment through out the year called Crochet with Me!! I hope you will stop by and check out some of my patterns and maybe even make one of my Amazing Grace Patterns and pay it forward by making a gift for someone who is suffering or recovering from illness or hardship!
Now, just a little about me,,, I have been married for 25 years, have 3 grown children, 2 grandchildren, 2 cats and Charlie the Boxer... I work full time as a Billing Supervisor for a small family run Internet Company. I live in a small mountain town in Northern California... Mt Shasta! I enjoy crafting, crocheting, gardening, cooking and time with family and friends!
I was so excited and humbled when Tamara asked me to get to know all of you!! Thank you Tamara!!
Happy Crocheting!!

I came across the Midnight Breeze Shawl pattern a while ago when I was looking for a project to do with some gorgeous Malabrigo Arroyo yarn (color - INDIECITA) I fell in love with. I'm almost done with it and it is looking wonderful. Love the stiches used in this pattern. I have also made 3 of the Amazing Grace Bags she has designed. Great designer!!!!!!
