A Bit About the Author

Author Megan Lapp runs the Etsy shop Crafty Intentions, and it's full of amazing, fantastical designs, just like the ones seen in this book. Here's her author blurb:

"Megan Lapp got her BA with a double-major in Art and Music from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, and hasn't stopped creating since. Her current work spans many artistic media, including crochet, sculpture, painting, and various fiber arts. She works daily in her studio. Megan lives with her husband, 13 year old son, and 11 year old daughter in Pennsylvania. In her spare time, Megan enjoys singing, playing piano, and doing all the voices when reading to her kids.

Megan won the Makezine Me, My Scarf, and I Singer Contest in 2009 for an original scarf design. Her handmade plushes were a reward for the Kickstarter for Epyllion, A Dragon Epic, in 2015. She was a runner-up in the worldwide Amigurumi Patterns design contest in 2017 for her Original Dragon Pattern design. Megan has been publishing original patterns on Etsy and Ravelry since 2017."

This is a thick book - almost 300 pages long! Megan's books are unique. Rather than sharing a selection of discrete patterns, they are "choose your own adventure" books of amigurumi! And just like any adventurer, you should prepare before you depart - in this case, be sure to read the Introduction! You'll need this roadmap for using the rest of the book.

In a nutshell, Crochet Snails & Mushroom Sprites lets you use Megan's bits and pieces to spark your own imagination! Mix and match the heads, arms, legs, bodies, and caps for the Mushroom Sprites. When you decide to make a Snail, you can pick out the size, body, antennae, and shells. And of course, you always get to pick the colors and yarn textures! 

There are also a few patterns for accessories - including two different leash styles and lots of saddles!

The stitches themselves are all pretty simple, with bobbles being about the most challenging stitch. And there are lots and lots of pictures for each step, and each bit of pattern! This is super helpful, and I'm so impressed with the level of detail and all the photos!

The style of pattern writing itself is what I call "amigurumi style," using "Dec" instead of "sc2tog" and other similar shortcuts. So I do recommend that you have some familiarity with the basics of crochet and pattern writing if you'd like to make these amazing creatures! That said, there are tons of helpful hints throughout, making it as easy as it can be!

Crochet Snails & Mushroom Sprites is another amazing achievement for Megan. I am in love with this fantastical, magical, yarny world she has created, and this book is a much have to add to the collection!
