A Bit About the Author
is one of Salena's newest books with Stackpole, and it debuted in April of 2024. I've had the opportunity to chat with Salena several times over the years, and she is always a delight.
"I learned to crochet at the age of 5 and haven't put my hook down since! I've published over 300 patterns, authored 7 (note from Tamara - it's a lot more than that now!) crochet books, taught 2 courses with Craftsy, and launched the American Crochet Association. I currently live in Oregon with my husband, son, 2 cats and 1 dog."

does indeed start with a detailed section with instructions for the standard granny square. This section also goes over granny square joins. There are lots of photos, and each step is shown! This section also includes a chart.
The 10 designs in Projects include a hat, cowl, hooded scarf, 3 different styles of bags, a shrug, poncho, and 2 unique top designs.
In addition to the written instructions, the patterns include handy diagrams showing the layout of the pieces and how they are assembled.
With patterns for all seasons, this is a great book to pick up any time of year. The projects look quick and approachable for all skill levels!
The yarn used in these designs are in a mix of worsted and bulky weights. All are by Lion Brand, making them easy to source, in person or online! Lion Brand Hue + Me, Landscapes Renewed, Mandala Impressions, 24/7 Cotton, Re-Up Bonus Bundle, Basic Stitch Anti-Microbial Thick & Quick, and Coboo all make an appearance!
Overall, this is a great book for those looking to dive into granny squares and try some beautiful patterns!
