It’s been ages since I’ve run a mini-CAL – so I’m super excited to get to share this Autumn Amore Mini Crochet Along with you all in October 2018!
Disclaimer: This CAL has been sponsored by Red Heart Yarns. This post contains affiliate links.
The inspiration for this CAL is two-fold. Firstly, I’m completely in love with Red Heart Amore! It’s incredibly soft, a fantastic worsted/medium weight, and available both on RedHeart.com and at Walmart!
For this CAL I chose Whisper, Earl Grey, and Chamomile, for a combo that’s great for both men and women! I’ll also be using my Furls Streamlines in US-I, 5.5m and US-K, 6.5mm.
The other bit of inspiration is YOU! I’ve gotten lots of questions over the past few years about one particular stitch – the crochet moss stitch, aka the granite stitch or linen stitch. It has many names, and is a super popular stitch pattern.
While this stitch pattern is pretty simple – just chains and single crochets – it can be confusing! There are a couple of different ways to work it in rows, as well as in the round. And increasing and decreasing this one is its own challenge!
So for the Autumn Amore Mini Crochet Along, I’m going to be sharing four patterns – all using 3 colors of Red Heart Amore, all featuring the moss stitch, all unisex, and all in a variety of sizes for the whole family. And there will be video tutorials for them all, where I’ll share 2 different methods for rows and rounds, and both increasing and decreasing in the round!
Even better, I’ll be doing a Yarn Love review of Amore in October… and THREE giveaways, so even more people have a chance to win! Here’s the schedule, so you know what to expect!

Hat, scarf, AND mittens? Count me in! Thanks so much for this CAL, Tamara. I love the moss stitch, but I haven’t worked it in the round, so I’m eager to learn the technique (and tips and tricks) or that.

Sounds fun! Is there a recommendation on how many skeins to buy?
Tamara Kelly
I’m working on that part – and so much will depend on which size you make. But no more than 1-2 skeins of each color for each pattern.
vickie
So, you will only need one skein of three different colors total? Or just three skeins period?
Tamara Kelly
1-2 skeins each of 3 colors per pattern made.
Jennifer Tardibuono
This is my 1st CAL so I may ask some obvious questions. How much yarn should I be getting or do I wait for 10/5 when the pattern is released? Is there a way I can sign up to get the updates on the CAL automatically or do I just check back on each of the dates you listed?
I can’t wait to learn this stitch!
Tamara Kelly
You can get 1 skein each of 3 colors for the first pattern, but the other patterns will depend on which size you make – I’m still working on a few sizes so I hope to have that info soon.
To make sure you stay up to date, I’d recommend signing up for the free newsletter at the top of the page! 🙂

I love this stitch and can’t wait. Do you know where you can find Amore locally? I love to be able to feel the yarn before buying if it’s a new one to me. I know Caron Kindness fools me every time I’m in Michaels with their pretty colors, yardage and price but the feel of it is like nails on chalkboard to me and Amore says it’s the same fiber content so I’m just a little leery. The texture of each online look totally different but just not sure. Do you know if the feel is similar or totally different?
Tamara Kelly
Hi Connie! It’s available at most Walmarts – on it’s way, if not there yet! I’m afraid I haven’t seen Caron Kindness, but I can assure you this yarn is super soft and fuzzy!
Jamie
I was just at Walmart yesterday and saw the amore yarn. I absolutely loved the feel of it, so soft and yummy. It’s infinitely softer than the Caron Kindness. I wanted to buy some because I liked it so much, but didn’t have a pattern in mind. Now I do!!

Love this set. Would love the pattern.
Bonnie Buckley
Is the pattern already available? I saw one person wrote “love this pattern” but another person wrote “can’t wait for this pattern to be released.” Where do I look for the pattern when it is released? It looks so sweet! I love the linen stitch, it is so much fun. Really looking forward to this project and expanding my skills, doing the linen stitch in rounds!
Tamara Kelly
Hi Bonnie! Not yet – they will be shared here on Moogly, on the dates given above. (I imagine the previous commenter was also referring to the linen stitch itself!) You can subscribe to the newsletter via the link at the top of the Mooglyblog site if you want to make sure not to miss a thing! 😀

I was just looking for a scarf pattern using this stitch and BAM! There you are with this lovely mini-CAL.
How do I join?
Tamara Kelly
Yay! 😀 The only thing you need to do is make the projects that you want to make! And of course, if you want to enter the giveaways… 😉 I’d love it if you shared your photos too, but that’s totally optional!

I am looking forward to making this set as a Christmas present, and I am full of anticipation. I am thankful for opening up this particular e-mail from Red Heart!!

I need to make a few sets of hats scarves and mittens to send to my boys up North where it is so cold in the winter. I also would like to make some for my youngest sister who is 12 and my little niece and my nephews who also live up North as well. I will be so happy to join in on this CAL.

Looks interesting. I love new stitches/combination. Makes the art of the craft a little more interesting.

Jane Westling
I’m new to this. What is a CAL?
Tamara Kelly
Hi Jane! It stands for Crochet Along (weird way to abbreviate it, but there it is lol). It just means making a pattern as a group – sometimes you get a bit of one pattern at a time, but for this one, I’m doing a series of patterns that all go together! 🙂

Count me in! Siper excited to get started and try this stitch out. Getting all my projects lined up for the season.
