While I'm at the Knit and Crochet Show in San Diego this week, I'm happy to share a fun guest roundup post by Elaine Bennett of TopCrochetPatterns.com! Thanks Elaine!
Granny squares are the starting component of so many different crochet patterns, from blankets and bags to garments and toys. While the basic patterns are great for making in a hurry, why not try these more unusual designs? They're all completely free to download!
1. Heart to heart: http://www.topcrochetpatterns.com/free-crochet-patterns/heart-granny-square1
The heart on this design pops right out. The block would make a great centre focal point for an heirloom blanket.
2. Try stripes: http://www.topcrochetpatterns.com/free-crochet-patterns/stripy-granny-square
I love the way the white lines radiate out from the centre of this easier-than-it-looks square.
3. Sunset shades: http://www.topcrochetpatterns.com/free-crochet-patterns/ripple-square-granny-square
Mix and match sunset shades and a cool stranded design in this block by Irene Strange.
4. Wheel of fortune: http://www.topcrochetpatterns.com/free-crochet-patterns/circle-granny-square1
Make a granny square with a cool pinwheel central design in contemporary shades of pink and grey.
5. Diamonds are forever: http://www.topcrochetpatterns.com/free-crochet-patterns/diamond-granny-square
Be warned – this square-within-a-square design is really addictive to make once you get started!
6. Celtic knot: http://www.topcrochetpatterns.com/free-crochet-patterns/celtic-knot-granny-square
Start this square by making four interlinking circles. Add a little glitter yarn for that special finishing touch.

Apparently I made a typing error when giving my password, and since I can't look at the letters after I typed them, I have no idea what the error is. Now the website won't let me use my own email address to try again. Help!!!
Tamara Kelly
I'm sorry Carol! I don't run the website, have you messaged them?
Audrey
