    A Bit About the Author

    Lori Harrison

Tunisian Crochet: A Stitch Dictionary with 501 Stitches to Explore is Lori's second book, and it debuted just last week!

"Lori Harrison is the Tunisian crochet designer behind Aklori Designs and author of Exploring Tunisian Crochet. Designing since 2017, she strives to create enjoyable, inclusive, and easy-to-follow garment and accessory patterns for all levels of Tunisian crochet enthusiasts. As an engineer in her day job, she designs as a way to nurture her creative side while also relaxing at the end of the day. Influenced by her engineering background, patterns are concise but comprehensive and tailored to the experience level required for the pattern. Lori lives in Tucson, Arizona with her husband, three cats, and a sassy Shiba Inu. When she doesn’t have a Tunisian crochet hook in her hand, she enjoys cooking, hiking, and nature photography. "

    Now let's dive in!

Inside Tunisian Crochet: A Stitch Dictionary with 501 Stitches to Explore

While Lori points out that no stitch dictionary is totally comprehensive - the possible combinations are just too many - Tunisian Crochet: A Stitch Dictionary with 501 Stitches to Explore is the closest I've seen.

"Discover the ultimate guide to Tunisian crochet with this comprehensive stitch dictionary, featuring over 500 stitches and stitch patterns. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced maker, this book is your go-to resource for exploring Tunisian crochet stitches.

    • 500+ Tunisian crochet stitches: Each stitch is accompanied by a detailed swatch, chart, and step-by-step row-by-row instructions.
    • Clear tutorials: Packed with photo tutorials, so you'll never have to wonder where to place your hook.
    • Diverse stitch patterns: Explore cables, lace, colorwork, bobbles, shells, fans, and so much more.
    • From a trusted expert: Author Lori Harrison, celebrated for her innovative Tunisian crochet designs, builds on the success of her first book, Exploring Tunisian Crochet. This second book is inspired by her passion for pushing the boundaries of stitch creation.
    • The ultimate reference: A must-have addition to every Tunisian crocheter's library, this is the most complete stitch dictionary available."

    Tunisian Crochet Stitch Dictionary

Tunisian Crochet begins with all the info you need to get started with Tunisian crochet. This section covers how to make the Foundation Row, the Anatomy of a Tunisian crochet stitch, and how to use this book. There are lots of photos, and tons of great information. Learning to read Tunisian charts was on my to-do list - and a quick read of this section has me feeling confident and ready!

After that, it jumps right into the Basic Tunisian stitches and their variations. And there are so many I've never seen before - it really gets the gears moving! And I love that there is a note on each on how to adjust it for left-handed crocheters.

While Tunisian crochet has a reputation for being more difficult than "standard" crochet, the stitches and patterns in this book start off super approachable. As you can see above, the explanations for the stitches are simple and easy to understand. I love that pictures of the "wrong side" are included!

After all the basic variations, Lori has included a section on Increases and Decreases. It's a short but fantastic addition, and rare to see in a stitch dictionary - I was very surprised and pleased to see it!

And we're still just getting started! That all was Chapter 1. In Chapter 2, we start getting into the stitch patterns! For easy reference, they are broken into vertical stripes, horiztontal stripes, honeycomb stitches, basketweave stitches, and "other" for the few outliers. Now we also get charts with each entry - such a great way to learn!

At this point, of course, the instructions to start to get a little more complicated. Chapter 3 is about Lace Stitches - my personal Tunisian nemesis. Still easier than knitted lace for me! They're so pretty though... okay, I'll try again. With lots of stitch markers!

Chapter 4 covers cable stitches, and Tunisian cables are genuinely so fun - especially if you also know how to knit cables. And the examples are lovely. Between this section and the shaping, you're halfway to your own cable sweater!

And. There's. Still. More! Chapter 5 is all about Colorwork - and she's included information on how to change colors for a variety of effects. It's really amazing how much of a difference the color changes make in Tunisian stitches. After stripes Lori shows us how to work mosaic stitches in Tunisian - a combo I hadn't even considered before!

Finally, Chapter 6 is all about stitch patterns for Tunisian in the Round. This is another challenge I have yet to tackle, and I'm loving the inspiration here. The book wraps up with a handy stitch index that lists the abbreviation, full name, and page number to find it on - super handy with a book this size!

Yea for Tunisian. I really do enjoy this technique. I really need, color photos of how to do the stitches. Just wish there were more applications of the stitches.

This is one of the largest stitch-ionaries, for any craft, that I've ever sen. 500 Tunisian stitches could certainly keep me busy for quite a while.

I love tunisian crochet. I have to refer back to stitches to make sure that I'm creating them correctly but the outcome is perfect. I need to learn to read charts. I'm only used to patterns because I have been crocheting fir many years.
