When we upgraded our video editing equipment here at Moogly headquarters at the end of last year, one of the things we most wanted was the ability to create left handed videos as well as the usual right handed ones. And I’ve been very glad to hear how much all the lefties out there have appreciated it! So I’m very happy to be able to share two more left handed videos that have been a long time coming – Standing Double Crochet and Chainless Starting Double Crochet for Lefties!
Though these are two different techniques, they are often paired together because they are used in the same spot – as the first stitch of a new row or round. Here’s the difference that I hope will make it easier to remember:
Standing Double Crochet: Use when you are joining a NEW yarn to the project – think of it as the volunteer stands in tribute!
Chainless Starting Double Crochet: Use when you are continuing onto the next row with the OLD color – think of it as the old color breaking free of chains to start a new life!
Ok, so those references might not help, but if you learn both of these techniques, then regardless of the name, you’ll know when to use them – even when the pattern doesn’t tell you to!

I’ve got back and added both videos to the original posts, so any time you need to look them up, you can go right to the Video Tutorials page and they will be on the same page as the Rightie versions. But today, lefties get a post of their own!
And if you’re not ready for these tutorials because you’re still learning the basics, be sure to check out the Learn How to Crochet Left-Handed series here on Moogly!
