I believe the first project I made with RHSS was actually the first project I ever made by myself, lol. I made a scarf for my mom. It was very wavy on the edges and the tension was all over the place, but I was so proud of myself, lol. I started crocheting at 10 and for most of the 2 decades after that I truly believed Red Heart Super Saver was the only yarn out there. It was the only acrylic carried in the stores in my area, and I had no idea what a craft store was, so had never seen the other options besides cotton, lol. Thanks for the chance to win! Have a Wonderful week and Good Luck to everyone!!

I learned to crochet when I was 12 years old. My grandmother taught me. She's passed away 18th years ago. She was my first best friend. We crocheted together and when I messed up she always said to me," that's alright try again." Wow I miss my grandmother, even in my 40s. When I crochet I do it in her honor. Every stitch I make reminds me of her.
I made baby blankets, hats and scarf. I donate them to the hospital and assisted Living for the elderly.

I love RHSS, it is my "go to" yarn for projects. I don't remember my 1st project with it, probably barbie clothes. I learned to knit and crochet as a child.
Tammy Reed
I was 6 years old and taught myself how to crochet. After begging for a skein of red Red Heart from the local5&dimeI figured out, after months of trial and error, how to make myself a little purse. It was what you'd expect, a couple granny squares with a strap. But, oh, how I loved that little thing. It started me on a lifetime of creating and loving with yarn!

I still have my first completed project made with Red Heart yarns: a lapghan made completely of variegated yarns in pink, green, orange, and blues, done in single crochet squares. .It has survived numerous chikldren hugging, dragging, crying and snuggling with it! The only weakness it has displayed is in the joinings. I had no one around to demonstrate weaving-in ends, no internet for me 51 yrs ago!!
Shanon Campos
My first time with it was LEARNING! It was such a good yarn to learn on... I was 16 and didn't have internet. My piece came out horrible but I improved. This is my go to yarn for blankets and other projects. love it.
Neva Alf
My first finished project when I was 16 was a Red Heart Blanket. It was made using the Chevron stitch. Had reds, oranges, yellows, and crocheted from reds to yellows and back, which gave it a waterfall look. Still have it to this day. Needs mending, which I am gonna do. I've made several more of these blankets in many different colors and gave away as gifts.
Red Heart makes the best blankets!
Thank you
Neva Alf

I don't remember the first RHSS item I made. I'm pretty sure it's what I learned with when my mom tried to teach me to crochet as a kid and it was probably the first yarn I picked up when I relearned in 2015. The first things I have listed on Ravelry are a granny square blanket and granny square purses.
Deb Rowley
Probably a ripple afghan. They were popular way, way back when I was young and Red Heart was the go- to yarn for everything.
Diana C.
Waaaay back when I was just a crochet-newbie, I was in a JoAnn's store one day & spotted a gorgeous blanket pattern made up of 63 unique granny squares (31 duplicates + 1 single). Every one of them was interesting & I could hardly wait to start. It didn't even occur to me that it might be too hard ...I just slogged thru until I figured it all out! I used Red Heart in a wine, dusty rose, & cream to make the squares and it turned out beautifully! I still have it, too. To this day, Red Heart is my go-to yarn for just about everything I crochet.
Nigeala Nigrath

I think the first thing I ever made with a Super Saver skein was an afghan. If I win this giveaway, I will probably use it to keep making lapghans that I donate to Gift of Life. They were so kind to send me one as a comfort tool after my daughter became an organ donor, so I am trying to pay it forward and send them some to give to other grieving families.

It was many moons ago, I crocheted a scarf for an uncle of mine. It was in a beautiful royal blue color and it got wider with every row. It was a birthday present and he acted so excited to receive it. I remember seeing him wearing a few times. I was very proud of that scarf. I think of it now and get a good laugh. Thanks for the giveaway.

Well, my grandmother who was a professional (in my eyes) crochet artist passed away before she could ever teach me. So before I learned how to crochet, I taught myself how to loom knit using Red Heart Supersaver yarn because it was the yarn that I remembered my Grandma using for a majority of her projects. She always used to crochet gifts for the newborns in my family. Since she wasn't around, I took it upon myself to learn somewhere. My first ever project was a mis-shapen baby beanie for my newborn sister.
Jeanna Mancini
I made a christmas tree ornament with hunter green and cherry red.
Debbie

My first ever crochet project was a coaster using a rainbow loom hook because I didn't have enough money to buy actual hooks or yarn so I used scrap yarn I found in the house. When the opportunity came I bought crochet hooks and Red Heart Super Saver yarn to crochet a bag with thirteen granny squares.
Lynne Nisbet
I have crocheted with RHSS for many years that I can't accurately recall what my first item was. Most likely, it would have been a Granny square.
Sandra Tracey

Adrienne Mason

Anne Hilliard
I love red heart yarn, there are so many lovely colors.
Barb
Good yarn and good patterns!
Verna Bradshaw
My first project was when I was around 10 years old. I made a throw blanket for a family friend. Many decades later we connected and he said he still had it. He showed it to me and I hadn’t laughed so hard in a long time. My ‘throw’ size blanket using double crochets and it was much smaller than a baby blanket. I didn’t know to count stitches and the sides are all wonky. The yarn now feels like a plastic gone wrong! I told him he could throw it away, and he said he never will.
Kristina
My first project was a queen size blanket. I bit off more than I could chew lol. I did finish it but it was very crooked. More like a trapezoid than a rectangle.
Kristin Norris
I’m pretty sure it was a blanket. I taught myself to crochet and made a cotton dishcloth first then headlong into a blanket LOL
Sharon Melendez
Thank you!
Tracy
I believe the first thing I used RH SS for when learning to crochet was a small blanket, have made many things since!!
Connie Dews
The first projects I made with Red Heart Super Saver were granny squares ones. The oldest one I still have I made in 1981, when I found out I was pregnant with my firstborn. I had not told anyone yet and my mother gave me a big bag of yellow Super Saver and said, "I know. Yellow can be boy or girl." My son loved his blanket and when he was older he loved to wear it as a cape and "fly" around everywhere. It then went through several other babies in the family. And while my stitches have definitely improved in the last 42 years, this blanket is still good and can hopefully bundle up many more babies in the future.
Briana Garcia
My first project was a coozy for my dad. I was 8 years old. Now I use it for so many projects. My favorite yarn!
Lynn Whinery
The first project I made with RHSS was probably an afghan I made while pregnant with my first son. He loved that afghan and used it daily until it finally fell apart in his 20s. Thankfully I was able to find the same yarn, and made another one just like it. (He complained that the border was different, but used it anyway, LOL) We still have afghans I made for my youngest, who are in their late 20s, and they still look as good as new, despite being over 20 years old.
Carmen Patterson
This would be such a blessing to win!
claire
never tried, excited to!

Bobbie

Kay V Cornett
The very first item I ever crocheted was made with Red Heart Super Saver. I was 10 years old and my mother showed me how to do the traditional Granny Square pattern so I spent the summer turning single skeins as well as scraps into squares and making blankets for friends and family.
