I self taught myself to learn how to crochet after I had my leg amputated and because I was bored, not able to be mobile I looked up a video on how to make a baby dress. Very 1st thing I ever learned to make and still to this day I seem to always turn to redheart yarn the most often.

The fi st project I made using exclusively RHSS was a large baby blanket I made using the sedge/blanket stitch. It was sort of a cream/off-white color and it looked glorious. What amazed me though was that after I washed it, it became incredibly soft! I made a hat and booties too. The baby belonged to a work affiliate in India (my boss delivered during a business trip) and I was thrilled to receive pictures of them all together.

My first ever project was a granny square baby blanket for my nephew. I used Mexicana and solids that matched. I, of course, made it too big because I didn't really know what I was doing. He still uses it as a throw at the age of 16.

I will never forget. I went to my nearest Hobby Lobby and an older lady was teaching crochet. She invited me to her home so I wouldn’t have to continue paying for lessons. And helped me crochet a doily for my first project. She was such a sweet lady. I still have it. It was a beautiful variegated blue mix yarn. I don’t even think Red Heart offers the color anymore. Great , great memories of my first crochet experiences.

Having yarn on hand really helps me relax and gives me time to think. I've been crocheting about twelve years now and I generally keep about three projects going at any given time. Some of my yarn is this brand, too! Their colorways are very consistently dyed so they're very reliable for projects. 🙂

It was very wavy on the edges and the tension was all over the place, but I was so proud of myself, lol. I started crocheting at 10 and for most of the 2 decades after that I truly believed Red Heart Super Saver was the only yarn out there. It was the only acrylic carried in the stores in my area, and I had no idea what a craft store was, so had never seen the other options besides cotton, lol. Thanks for the chance to win! My first full project was a scarf when I was around 11 years old. My Grandma took me to the store to pick my own colors. She told me Red Heart was special because it put "heart" into your project. I worked on it all week during a trip with my grandparents and so proud to show my parents when I got back. I even remember it being dark purple and a gorgeous green. Happy yarny memories.

Waaaay back when I was just a crochet-newbie, I was in a JoAnn's store one day & spotted a gorgeous blanket pattern made up of 63 unique granny squares (31 duplicates + 1 single). Every one of them was interesting & I could hardly wait to start. It didn't even occur to me that it might be too hard ...I just slogged thru until I figured it all out! I used Red Heart in a wine, dusty rose, & cream to make the squares and it turned out beautifully! I still have it, too. To this day, Red Heart is my go-to yarn for just about everything I crochet.

WOW! 10 skeins! That is very generous and can make a lovely project. Red Heart has always been a favourite, especially because of the no dye lot feature. <3

Taught myself to crochet at age 6 by watching my grandmother. I think my first items made would be doll clothes and blankets.

My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was 8 years old with Red Heart Yarn. I made a granny square afghan. It’s been 50 years and it’s my go to yarn to this day.

Well, my grandmother who was a professional (in my eyes) crochet artist passed away before she could ever teach me. So before I learned how to crochet, I taught myself how to loom knit using Red Heart Supersaver yarn because it was the yarn that I remembered my Grandma using for a majority of her projects. She always used to crochet gifts for the newborns in my family. Since she wasn't around, I took it upon myself to learn somewhere. My first ever project was a mis-shapen baby beanie for my newborn sister.

My first ever crochet project was a coaster using a rainbow loom hook because I didn't have enough money to buy actual hooks or yarn so I used scrap yarn I found in the house. When the opportunity came I bought crochet hooks and Red Heart Super Saver yarn to crochet a bag with thirteen granny squares.

I have crocheted with RHSS for many years that I can't accurately recall what my first item was. Most likely, it would have been a Granny square.

My first project was when I was around 10 years old. I made a throw blanket for a family friend. Many decades later we connected and he said he still had it. He showed it to me and I hadn’t laughed so hard in a long time. My ‘throw’ size blanket using double crochets and it was much smaller than a baby blanket. I didn’t know to count stitches and the sides are all wonky. The yarn now feels like a plastic gone wrong! I told him he could throw it away, and he said he never will.

My first project was a queen size blanket. I bit off more than I could chew lol. I did finish it but it was very crooked. More like a trapezoid than a rectangle.

The first projects I made with Red Heart Super Saver were granny squares ones. The oldest one I still have I made in 1981, when I found out I was pregnant with my firstborn. I had not told anyone yet and my mother gave me a big bag of yellow Super Saver and said, "I know. Yellow can be boy or girl." My son loved his blanket and when he was older he loved to wear it as a cape and "fly" around everywhere. It then went through several other babies in the family. And while my stitches have definitely improved in the last 42 years, this blanket is still good and can hopefully bundle up many more babies in the future.

The first project I made with RHSS was probably an afghan I made while pregnant with my first son. He loved that afghan and used it daily until it finally fell apart in his 20s. Thankfully I was able to find the same yarn, and made another one just like it. (He complained that the border was different, but used it anyway, LOL) We still have afghans I made for my youngest, who are in their late 20s, and they still look as good as new, despite being over 20 years old.

The very first item I ever crocheted was made with Red Heart Super Saver. I was 10 years old and my mother showed me how to do the traditional Granny Square pattern so I spent the summer turning single skeins as well as scraps into squares and making blankets for friends and family.
