Oh My Mitts

The Oh My Cowl and Oh My Hat were such hits this year, I had to design one more pattern (for now!) to add to the set - the Oh My Mitts! I hope you enjoy this free crochet fingerless mitts pattern!

The Oh My Mitts feature the same stitch pattern as the cowl and hat, all made in super soft Lion Brand LB Collection Baby Alpaca. This free crochet mitts pattern includes two sizes - Small, for teens/small adults, and Large, for adults with bigger hands. You can see the Small size modeled below on my 15 year old, and those are my hands in the Large!

Oh My Mitts

US - G, 4.0 mm hook (Furls Crochet hook used) - Small only

US - H, 5.0 mm hook (Furls Crochet hook used) - Large only

140-155 yds Lion Brand LB Collection Baby Alpaca (“3” light/DK/UK: 8 ply; 100% baby alpaca; 146 yds/133 m; 1.75 oz/50 g)
Color A: Tan (1 ball per pair)
Color B: Natural (1 ball per pair)

Gauge with smaller hook: 18 sts x 10 rows = 4"/10 cm in dc

Gauge with larger hook: 16 sts x 8 rows = 4"/10 cm in dc

Sizes: Small (Teens/Small Adults); Large (Large Adults)

SPECIAL STITCHES:

Shell: (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in indicated stitch

Big Shell: (4 dc, ch 1, 4 dc) in indicated stitch

Super Shell: (5 dc, ch 1, 5 dc) in indicated stitch

V st: (dc, ch 1, dc) in indicated stitch

NOTE: The two sizes are the same pattern - the only difference is that the Small is made with the smaller hook, and the Large is made with the larger hook. Be sure to check gauge and use the hook size that gets you closest to the gauge needed for the size of mitts you want to make. Note that the only difference between right and left mitts is in Round 19.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Round 1: With Color A, FDC 24; join to work in the round. (24 sts)

Round 2 - 5: Ch 1, fpdc in 1st st, hdc in next st, *fpdc in next st, hdc in next st; repeat from * around, join. (24 sts)

Round 6: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, skip 2 sts, *shell in next st, skip 2 sts,** sc in next st, skip 2 sts; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, join using Color B. (4 shells)

Round 7: Continuing with Color B, ch 7 (counts as dc and ch 4), *skip next shell, V st in next sc, ch 4; repeat from * around, dc in same st as join, ch 1, sl st in 3rd ch of ch-8 (counts as V st). (4 V sts)

Round 8: Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch 1), 3 dc in ch sp before the join, *sc in ch-1 sp of next shell (enclosing previous round ch-4 in the st),** shell in ch-1 sp of next V st; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, then 2 dc in same ch-1 sp as 1st 3 dc of round (work over the unused Color A, to bring it up to the next round), join to 3rd ch of ch-4 with sl st using Color A (finishes shell). (4 shells)

Round 9: Continuing with Color A, ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2, *V st in next sc st,** ch 4, skip shell; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, ch 2, join to 1st sc with sl st. (4 V sts)

Round 10: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, shell in ch-1 sp of next V st, *sc in ch-1 sp of next shell (enclosing previous round ch-4 in the st), shell in ch-1 sp of next V st; repeat from * around, join to 1st sc with sl st using Color B. (4 shells)

Round 11: Continuing with Color B, ch 8, *skip next shell, V st in next sc, ch 5; repeat from * around, dc in same st as join, ch 1, sl st in 3rd ch of ch-8. (4 V sts)

Round 12: Ch 4, 4 dc in ch-1 sp before the join, *sc in ch-1 sp of next shell (enclosing previous round ch-5 in the st),** big shell in ch-1 sp of next V st; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, then 3 dc in same ch-1 sp as 1st 4 dc of round, join to 3rd ch of ch-4 with sl st using Color A (finishes a big shell). (4 big shells)

Round 13: Continuing with Color A, ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2, *V st in next sc,** ch 5, skip big shell; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, ch 2, join to 1st sc with sl st. (4 V sts)

Round 14: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, big shell in ch-1 sp of next V st, *sc in ch-1 sp of next big shell (enclosing previous round ch-5 in the st), big shell in ch-1 sp of next V st; repeat from * around, join to 1st sc with sl st using Color B. (4 big shells)

Round 15: Continuing with Color B, ch 9, *skip next shell, V st in next sc, ch 6; repeat from * around, dc in same st as join, ch 1, sl st in 3rd ch of ch-9. (4 V sts)

Round 16: Ch 4, 5 dc in ch-1 sp before the join, *sc in ch-1 sp of next shell (enclosing previous round ch-6 in the st),** super shell in ch-1 sp of next V st; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, then 4 dc in same ch-1 sp as 1st 5 dc of round, join to 3rd ch of ch-4 with sl st using Color A (finishes a super shell), break Color B. (4 super shells)

Round 17: Continuing with Color A, ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 3, *V st in next sc,** ch 7, skip super shell; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, ch 3, join to 1st sc with sl st. (4 V sts)

Round 18: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, super shell in ch-1 sp of next V st, *sc in ch-1 sp of next super shell (enclosing previous round ch-7 in the st), super shell in ch-1 sp of next V st; repeat from * around, join to 1st sc with sl st, break Color A. (4 super shells)

RIGHT HAND - Round 19: With Color B, join to ch-1 sp of 1st super shell of previous round, ch 1, sc in same ch-1 sp, ch 3, *V st in next sc,** ch 6, skip super shell; repeat from * once, then repeat from * to ** once, then ch 3, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 7, join to 1st sc with sl st. (3 V sts)

LEFT HAND - Round 19: With Color B, join to ch-1 sp of last super shell of previous round, ch 1, sc in same ch-1 sp, ch 3, *V st in next sc,** ch 6, skip super shell; repeat from * once, then repeat from * to ** once, then ch 3, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 7, join to 1st sc with sl st. (3 V sts)

Round 20: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, big shell in ch-1 sp of next V st, *sc in ch-1 sp of next super shell (enclosing previous round ch-6 in the st), big shell in ch-1 sp of next V st; repeat from * once, then sc in next sc, big shell in ch-7 sp, join to 1st sc with sl st using Color A, break Color B. (4 big shells)

Round 21: Continuing with Color A, ch 8, *skip next big shell, V st in next sc, ch 5; repeat from * around, dc in same st as join, ch 1, sl st in 3rd ch of ch-8. (4 V sts)

Round 22: Ch 4, 4 dc in ch-1 sp before the join, *sc in ch-1 sp of next shell (enclosing previous round ch-5 in the st),** big shell in ch-1 sp of next V st; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, then 3 dc in same ch-1 sp as 1st 4 dc of round, join to 3rd ch of ch-4 with sl st. (4 big shells)

Round 23: Ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp, 6 dc in next sc, *sc in next ch-1 sp, 6 dc in next sc; repeat from * around, join to 1st sc with sl st. (28 sts)

Round 24: Ch 1, skip the sc, *fpdc in next dc st, hdc in next dc st; repeat from * around, join to 1st fpdc with sl st (all sc sts skipped). (24 sts)

Round 25: Ch 1, fpdc in 1st st, hdc in next st, *fpdc in next st, hdc in next st; repeat from * around, join and break yarn. (24 sts)
