This was my first time trying spinning, and it was both harder and more fun than I anticipated! Luckily I had a friend who had coincidentally also picked up a kit, so we sat down together, turned on the youtube, and gave it a try!
This is what my first ball of roving became! It's bulky yarn! Sort of anyway... haha. Too much twist I think!
But my second ball is in progress, seen below, and it's going MUCH better. I think I've finally gotten the hang of it! Sure, it's still slubby, but I'm getting there. There was no shortage of colorful language that night, I'll be honest. But after we finished, my friend and I both wanted to do it again! And that's the best sign of all!
This kit from Walnut Farm Designs had everything I needed to get started, and it's was just perfect to use. The kits include a 3-4oz hand dyed braid of merino roving fiber, a top whorl spindle and instructions! She even puts the leader on the spindle for you! While the written instructions are included, I also found this video super helpful:
