Crochetterie by Molla Mills: Review & Giveaway!

I got a chance to review a new book coming out this autumn, Crochetterie by Molla Mills - a book that promises to feature "Cool Contemporary Crochet for the Creatively Minded!" Love that! Read on to see what I think of it... and enter to win your own copy!

Odds are, you already own a crochet pattern book or two. But not like this one. Thick, hard-covered, gorgeously bound, you'd be excused for thinking it at first glance that it's a university textbook!

And cracking it open, you are rewarded with a book that's different from most. Thorough, beautifully photographed, on lovely heavy glossy paper. It's lovely from front to back!

But let's get to the actual content! Crochetterie was written by Finnish designer Molla Mills to appeal to men as well as women - and while I'm not a man, I dare say she has succeeded! The projects are stylish without being feminine, useful and suited to nearly any decor.

Tapestry crochet is featured heavily, and many patterns are elevated with the addition of leather, zippers, and fabric. There are lots of handy bags designed for specific tasks, as well as wearables and even a fun toy set!

The patterns are written in UK terms with the US terms in parentheses, and some of the other terms will be new to most US crocheters. But everything is very well explained with photo tutorials. In fact, there's even a section on stretches for crocheters, and another on how to whittle your own crochet hook!

Crochetterie is a fun addition to any crochet bookshelf, and with any luck will turn a few more men into the art of crochet!

Full disclosure - there is one pattern with a bit of colorful language. But I think it will appeal to anyone who enjoys modern crochet, as well as those who crochet for guys!
