Ok, there is a lot happening here! Crochet Goomis is a thick paperback book filled with 50 patterns for amigurumi characters. All of which are part of Battle Goomies, a collectible crochet card game!
You download the cards using the QR code included in the book - and you can see more about the game at BattleGoomis.com! It's described as a 15-30 minute game for those age 7 and up. Love seeing crochet out there in new ways!
And each of the characters has its own crochet pattern as well! The first pattern in the book is a SIG - a "Standard Issue Goomi." The instructions are spelled out and shown in a way designed for absolute crochet beginners. So if you're a more experienced crochet, you can jump right into the other patterns!
The Crochet Goomis patterns are written in US terms, using worsted weight yarn and a US-G/6, 4.0 mm crochet hook. He mentions that he prefers cotton or cotton blends - his own brand, of course.
Looking through the written patterns themselves, they are written in an abbreviated shorthand style, but any non-standard instructions are very well written out and explained. There are tons of close-up assembly photos too, which are a huge help.
And if you're really lost, there are video tutorials linked inside the book as well! While the characters may have been picked for the game, they represent a wide and delightful variety of patterns - animals, plants, and even a few cryptids!
