Colorful Crochet Cables Review
A Bit About the Author
This looks to be the first book by author Noelle R. B. Stiles, but you might know her site, Rebecca’s Stylings, or have purchased some of her amazing patterns from her Etsy Shop! She does a LOT more than crochet, however!
"Noelle R. B. Stiles is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Rutgers University, with a joint appointment in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at New Jersey Medical School. She is a core member of the Center for Advanced Human Brain Imaging Research within the Brain Health Institute at Rutgers. She was a vision research scientist at the University of Southern California in the Department of Ophthalmology for over 5 years, and earned a doctorate in Neuroscience from the Computation and Neural Systems Program at the California Institute of Technology.
Dr. Stiles has always been artistically as well as scientifically inclined (perhaps inherited from her artist paternal grandmother and math-teacher maternal grandmother). She has been crocheting for two decades and designing award-winning crochet items for over eight years. She was the winner in the Baby Category for the 2017 Herrschners Grand National Afghan Contest. Under her designer label, Rebecca’s Stylings (rebeccasstylings.com), she has designed patterns for Red Heart Yarns, and has published over 150 crochet patterns on Love Crafts, WeCrochet, Ravelry, and Etsy. The focus of her fiber art is complex Aran-style cabling made with standard crochet stitches. This texture-rich fabric created in bright modern colors is the perfect canvas for her intricate yet intuitive designs."
Now let's dive into Colorful Crochet Cables!
Inside Colorful Crochet Cables

Remember all that stuff about how Noelle is really smart, working in the Department of Neurology at Rutgers, in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science? The first half of this book is a deep dive into the science of color, from illusions to dye lots! Then there's a section on Crochet Texture, which frankly, is a masterclass all on it's own. I'm going to be spending some serious time with this book.

But it keeps going! There are chapters on Texture and Shadow in One Color, Multicolored Yarns with Multi-Textured Patterns, Color Gradient Yarns, Speckled Yarns, and Stranded Colorwork. And there's even a whole chapter of Tips, Colorways, and Swatches!

And then, finally, we're on to the patterns - and it's just as fabulous as the first half of the book. In Colorful Crochet Cables' patterns, you'll find all the details you'll need for success, from video tutorial links to charts, to clearly written instructions and closeup photos. This book is a pattern book and crochet reference book all in one!
