An Ancient Craft
Humans have been weaving fabric and baskets for at least 30,000 years! It’s up there with pottery and cave painting in our history – but so much easier to do now with modern materials.
The Clover Mini Weaving Loom makes it easy to give the ancient art of weaving a try – and makes it relaxing and fun!
What’s in the Clover Mini Weaving Loom?
The Clover Mini Weaving Loom has everything you need to get started with your first weaving project, except the yarn! There is a frame with spacing bars, shuttle, shed stick, needle, and weaving comb.
Luckily, there are also extensive instructions in four languages that tell you what each of those things are, and how to use them!
How to Use the Clover Mini Weaving Loom
Assemble the Loom and Set Up the Warp
The spacing bars slide onto the frame – and it’s all set to go! Ready in seconds.
Then it’s time to “set up the warp.” This means tying down one end of the yarn and then wind it back and forth over the surface of the frame, between the notches on the spacing bars.
Tie it down on the other end and done!
Wind the Weft
Next, you need to “wind the weft” which means winding the yarn around the shuttle – a long stick with notches in each end. The instructions specify a figure of eight motion that I’m not sure I quite figured out… but it worked anyway!
Time to Get Weaving!
Finally, it’s time to make some fabric. First, you take the shed stick – basically a small ruler – and weave it into the loom. Push it to the top.
Then, Weave the shuttle through the loom, going under the opposite sides of the warp yarns as the shed stick.
Pull the shuttle on through, and use the weaving comb (looks like a hair pick!) to push the yarn to the bottom of the frame. Be sure to leave some yarn behind and don’t pull it all the way through – you want an end to weave in.
Now, turn your shed stick on its side between the warp strands – this opens them up to send the shuttle back through in the opposite direction. Easy peasy!
Go back and forth, filling up the warp yarns with your weft yarn. When it’s full, you can take your piece off the frame and weave in your ends!
Going to the Next Level
On the other side of the detailed instruction sheet, there are tips and tricks and project ideas for your Clover Mini Weaving Loom. You can connect other looms to this set to create even bigger projects too! From how to add fringe, to how to join squares to make a scarf, this set is a great intro to weaving as a hobby!
I wasn’t able to finish my square before posting, but I look forward to finishing my coaster for my desk!
