Win a set of Clover Amour Steel Crochet Hooks on Moogly! Open to residents of the US and Canada, the giveaway ends 10/7/14 at 12:15am Central time. #crochet #giveaway

I'm a big big fan of Clover products - their notions are some of my absolute favorites! You may have noticed that I link to their stitch markers in lots of my patterns. So when I got the chance to try out their Clover Amour Steel Crochet Hooks, I had to say yes - and give away a set to one lucky Moogly reader!

The Clover web site is full of amazing notions and products to make your crocheting (and sewing!) easier and more fun. And the Clover Facebook page is full of inspiration! But what I really want to show off today is the Clover Amour Steel Crochet Hook Set!

Win a set of Clover Amour Steel Crochet Hooks on Moogly! Open to residents of the US and Canada, the giveaway ends 10/7/14 at 12:15am Central time. #crochet #giveaway

I don't do a whole lot of threadwork here on Moogly... and one of the reasons has always been that crocheting with those tiny steel hooks is just so hard on the hands! I love making thread snowflakes for the holidays, but I've always had to stop every few minutes to stretch my hands and give my fingertips a break. As much as I love the end result, I always sort of dread starting them.

Win a set of Clover Amour Steel Crochet Hooks on Moogly! Open to residents of the US and Canada, the giveaway ends 10/7/14 at 12:15am Central time. #crochet #giveawayNow I feel like I want to get started early! The Clover Amour Steel Crochet Hooks are super comfortable. The rubber handles are so much easier to hold, and the colors are fun too! And they're not just for show - they're color coded by size. And there are 7 sizes included: 0 /1.75mm, 2 /1.50mm, 4 /1.25mm, 6 /1.00mm, 8 /0.90mm, 10 /0.75mm, and 12 /0.60mm. But no worries, each size is stamped right on the handle - no color memorizing needed.

The hook shape itself is a great blend of inline and not inline - great for grabbing the thread and pulling it through your stitches without splitting the plies. Normally I hold my hook underhand, or pencil hold, but I do switch it up from time to time. So I tried these out with both grip styles, and they were comfortable either way! And there was a bonus I didn't even realize was included (even though there's a note on the box... doh) - lids! Each hook comes with a cap, so you don't accidentally go poking yourself or your project bag - a real risk especially with the tiny sizes!

Sure, the steel hooks I inherited from my husband's grandmother have sentimental value, and I'm not throwing them out. But when I want to sit down and actually do thread crochet, it's the Clover Amours that I'll reach for! In fact, I've been reaching for them a lot this week, as I'm using them to create a new free crochet pattern from all of you! Here's a sneak peek:

I'm so happy to have this set in my crochet hook arsenal, and I'm even happier that I get to give a set away to one of you today!

The Clover Amour Steel Crochet Hook Set Giveaway is open to residents of the United States and Canada, and ends 10/7/2014 at 12:15am Central US Time. Only the email entry is mandatory to enter - all other options are for bonus entries. Also note that comments are moderated, so if you don't see yours right away, don't worry - I just have to approve them as time allows, to prevent spam. I'll make sure they're all set before I run the random winner picking program!

Hi, I saw that u suffer from carpal tunnel, and I have a suggestion for u. Have an adult drip a dab of baby oil on ur wrists and take ur hand, palm up, so they can put their thumbs parallel to ur wrist. They need to press firmly as they spread their thumbs apart, all the way to the sides of ur wrist. They will need to repeat this about 12-18 times per setting. This massage does several things for a person: it increases blood flow to the hands, it re-energizes and relaxes a person, and it stretches the tendon in the wrist that causes carpal tunnel. The tighter that tendon is, the more the reps needed. Best of luck! <3

I love love love to crochet with thread!! But I can only do so much at a time before my hands start hurting. I would love to try these Clover Amour hooks! And the caps are genius! I have sadly had a couple of my smaller steel hooks break while in a project bag. This is a great idea to keep them safe!

I had just found a nice big box of embroidery floss that I'd LOVE to use for crocheting itty bitty lil flowers and amigurumi...but currently lack the hooks to do so...I use the regular ergonomic Clover hooks RELIGIOUSLY as they're just the right size for my smaller palm hands, allowing me to work for HOURS on end without cramping...I'd love to add these to my collection of Clover hooks and get going on all those wonderful project ideas I've been creating in my mind! ^_^ <3

I just started crocheting a few months ago and have yet to do thread projects, but I found a couple of angels for my mom I want to make for Christmas for her, but as of yet, I don't have needles small enough and I worry about the regular steel hooks being too small to hold comfortably.

I would love to win a set of these! I, too, have a love/hate relationship with crocheted snowflakes that could turn to all love if the hooks didn't hurt to hold. I really like the look of thread and lace weight yarns in larger projects as well (tops & dresses!) and it would be so much nicer to work with them using these comfortable-handed hooks. The bonus feature of coming with covers for the points is great!

Making things for other people and getting a sense of completion from the gifts...that's what makes it so enjoyable. Watching as my loved ones see the gifts and know how much love I put into it. While trying to quit smoking I started crafting again to keep my hands busy. I've been crocheting for 40 years but recently found Moogly looking for crochet and tatting patterns. Found some wonderful crochet patterns that would adapt well to thread. I can't seem to learn shuttle tatting. I'm stumped with needle tatting after making the first round. So I'm going to have to go with cro-tatting and these Clover Amours would save my life, or at least my hands. I already own enough Clover products I should become a rep for them. And for the first time in many years I've found a funny butterfly feeling in my stomach when I think of crocheting miniatures. Like an addict I need to do this! Miniatures have always been a true passion and I can do it with clay but I've been trying for several years to get it with yarn/thread and I think these would do the trick. Thanks for the wonderful description. I saw them in the store the other day but already own a set of steel hooks so I bought needles instead. You've totally sold me on these. I want them so bad it hurts

What beautiful hooks! And so easy on the hands. I'm with you - the only thing keeping me from doing more thread crochet is the hand pain those tiny hooks cause. But I love the look of thread crochet - I just purchased some thread in hopes of making a motif shawl. I've seen so many gorgeous patterns it will be hard to pick. Would love to win the hooks to make the project more comfortable. Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

I love Clover Amour hooks. My hand would get so tired with regular metal hooks, even size H. Now I can stitch away the day with hardly a break. I actually wish they made larger sizes, just because the rubber grip is so comfortable! I've been thinking of getting another set so I can have one in both places I crochet - nothing worse than having to run upstairs when I need a different hook. By the way, I love this blog! Great patterns, interesting new products, and the introductions to new yarns is fabulous! ~Jennifer

D be perfect for my project for grey weeping angels that I am going to give my brain tumor support group. And I am also going to work on a bedspread for my daughter which will be priceless. This is reason clover hooks are only hooks I use...

I have tons of vintage charts that have been passed down through the generations of my mother's family. My grandmother was Irish so I imagine they originated in Ireland because they have been passed down enough generations to make it so. They are hand written and the paper is falling apart. I am in the process of writing a book with tutorials for all of them. In order to do this, I am crocheting each and every one of them and taking pictures each step of the way. I am buying a set of these hooks today because I have carpel tunnel and arthritis really bad and crocheting with thread and small hooks is very painful. I cannot wait to start using them. If I win the giveaway, then I will have two sets, but that is OK. I tend to have more than one WIP at a time anyway.

I also would make hair clippy add ons...like little flowers or stars or bees or 2D animals or shapes to put on our daughter's hair clips and elastics. I would crochet tiny boob ornaments for the moms in my La Leche League group for Christmas!! I would also make little breasts to hand out with my business cards...like a breast paper weight...but more just to attract attention from breastfeeding moms and for lactation consultants to use as teaching/talking points. If I could win these crochet hooks, I'd like to be able to spend some time crocheting with my grandmother. She has a hard time with crocheting right now because she has vision troubles and arthritis in her hands. If I had some small steel hooks, then I could ask her to walk me through making a table cloth like she made. It would bring us closer together and it might make her feel less lonely and more connected. I'm sure that there's more that I would do with those hooks, but right now, my grandmother is the most important. Thanks.

My grandmama made the most beautiful doilies. She was a seamstress for hire in our small town as well as a talented crocheter and quilter. She would take a break from her sewing mid afternoon and she and I would go out to the front porch and have a coca cola and some Ritz crackers. I loved sitting on the old porch swing with her, bare feet stuck straight out in the air as she pushed us back and forth to stir up a breeze on those sultry southern afternoons. Some days she would read to me from a well worn set of books of bible stories for children. They were a lovely shade of purple and, if I close my eyes, I can still feel their textured cover on my fingertips, smell the roses growing by the porch and the scent of the Jergen's lotion Grandmama wore and hear the sound of my grandmama's voice on the soft afternoon air. Other days, she would pull out her thread and hook. I would watch, mesmerized, as her hands made the hook and thread perform intricate, acrobatic moves in the air. Her hands looked so graceful and womanly. And they created such beautiful things even though they were twisted and bent with arthritis. I wanted to be just like her when I grew up.
I'm 54 now and Grandmama has been gone for 31 years. But she's still with me every time I sit down at my sewing machine or sort through fabrics for a quilt. She's with me every time I pick up a crochet hook or look through her patterns for inspiration for a new project. I always linger over the beautiful patterns for doilies and heave a little sigh of regret. The crochet hooks that they call for are simply too small and make my hands cramp up too badly to even think about making one of them. Sure, you could always make one using a heavier thread and a larger hook but that just wouldn't be the same. It would lack the airy delicacy of my Grandmama's work. It makes me wonder how she managed to work with those tiny hooks with her poor hands. My hands don't look nearly as bad as I remember hers looking but those tiny hooks are simply a no-go for me. A set of soft touch hooks might just open up the possibility of making some of those beautiful doily patterns........just like my Grandmama's.

Baby clothes and booties! I've got twin granddaughters on the way! I've also wanted to start making doilies, and I have this lovely pattern for a tablecloth I wanted to try. With Christmas coming, I have patterns for crocheting over ornament balls, and there's always snowflakes! I've put off a lot of these due to the pain in my hands, which make small hooks horrible to use. These would certainly make a difference. 🙂

There's a long vest that I'd love to make with colored thread, and these hooks would be just perfect!
I've been crocheting with a lot of thread lately, but I agree, those standard hooks are difficult (especially on my arthritic hands). My favorite hook is a clover hook that I purchased for yarn work. It's the only one I have, in a size I use the most, but by far, they are my favorite hooks to use. Whenever I misplace that hook, I'm digging all around trying to find it - that's how much I love their hooks. (Clover has got a whole bunch of great products too, like their blunt needles for weaving in yarn or thread. It's great because the "eye" actually is hinged so you can open it and pop the yarn in and then close it. It's easy to use and feels sturdy.)

I have been wanting to use the cotton threads to make embellishments for hats, scarves, etc; such as, flowers, hearts, and other appliques that look pretty but are lighter in weight than the ww that I am normally using for the actual items. I do have steel hooks but due to pain I am limited to how creative I can be. These hooks seem like a dream come true. I would love it if Tamara could possibly show how to incorporate threads as embellishments in a tutorial using the steel hooks.

i do all crocheting from threads to bulk yarn. I have found that the smaller needles are easier on the hands it there is a nice grip on them. I have done many dollies and am always interested in new and unusual dollies.. I crochet mainly for gifts and to give away, Love making things for babies and children.

I see dish cloths and baby blankets in my future. I love the rainbow these hooks are giving and I'd love to win them. 🙂
