And when I say “big”… I mean BIG! Read on to see just how big The Big Book of Granny Squares is…. and enter for your chance to win your own copy right here on Moogly!
The Big Book of Granny Squares is a brand new book by Tracey Lord (NOT Traci Lords, that’s a whole different book!). And it’s got a whopping 365 different crochet motif patterns! If made in the same yarn, with the same hook, then all the squares in the book should end up the same size. Which means you can mix and match them however you like! Love that!
And while of course you can use any colors you like, it’s so fun the way the book is laid out in a rainbow. So if you all you can remember about that square you liked is that it was red… this actually will help you find it in this book!
I also have to mention something that made me SO happy when I got this book – the spiral binding. I really really really wish all crochet pattern books came with a spiral binding! It’s so great to have the book just naturally lay flat while crocheting from it, without having to lay something on top and break the binding. Genius! When I open my own publishing house someday, making all pattern books spiral bound is top of the list.
Now all that said, there are a couple of things I’d change about the book if I could. The squares are in written instructions only, with no charts. However, the book is already so big and hefty, I can see why they needed to save on paper! Additionally, there are no stitch counts at the ends of the row/round instructions. Neither of these are deal breakers, but it does mean it helps to be a somewhat experienced crocheter before picking up this book – or a determined and motivated beginner at least.
What The Big Book of Granny Squares does have is 365 very distinctive patterns – some lacy, some solid, and all unique! So you can check it out the following links. Note that it has a slightly different title and cover in the UK! But the same spiral binding and number of pages.

Thank you for hosting a great giveaway! Just a note… having twitter second on things to do to enter cuts many people out if they don’t have a twitter account. 😉
Thanks again and you are one of my favorite go to places for the best patterns! Thanks for being so generous with them. 🙂
Tamara Kelly
The twitter one is optional though, and only worth 1 entry vs the email’s 10 entries. I mainly include the twitter to encourage people to share – otherwise people tend to keep the news of giveaways to themselves. 😉
Thanks so much Stephanie!

Yes all crocket books should be on a spiral binding! This book looks awesome! Thank you for the giveaway and for all your awesome patters and tutorials. 🙂
Denise
Looks like an awesome book–I chose the middle option on the voting, but hate that it makes me feel guilty as it reads negatively like I don’t “respect” the granny squares. I am rather fond of them, but my dislike for weaving in ends and changing colors means that I save them for specific projects and don’t “love” them. 🙂
Tamara Kelly
No worries, it’s just for fun! 😉
Rosina Smith

This book sounds awesome. I love that all patterns are written. Often patterns I like are in charts and due to my blindness I can’t see those. Written patterns I can scan and….. they will be spoken and… of I go!
Sharon Eshlaman

What a fabulous book. My gorgeous grandmother taught me to crochet granny squares when I was about 12 years old. I only rediscovered the joy of them some months ago, at the age of 62. I have since made a bright and colourful hexagon bathmat, a large throw for the couch and am in the process of making a blanket for our campervan. Any free time that I can grab, I sit and crochet. Thanks for making this worldwide. I live in beautiful Australia.
Ridah Khan
I really like the concept and I will try to win 🙂

We do not often find this kind of crochet book in South Africa. This one would be an absolute asset to any crocheter’s library.
Bertha Naegele
Making Granny Squares gives you the oportunity to make blakets from baby to teens. I use the granny to make blanets to send to charities that have both boys and girls. This book would be a big help to make new and exciting squares.
Carmen Nuland
I answered a “Meh” to the second question only because I love squares for afghans. Clothing? Not so much.
