Karen Whooley is a wonderful crochet designer and teacher, and she's got a brand new book out, full of the most gorgeous shawl patterns! And I'm lucky enough to have gotten a copy of A Garden of Shawls to review, and another to give away to one lucky winner!

Award winning crochet author and designer, and my friend Karen, has designed 12 new garden-themed shawls for A Garden of Shawls. Each pattern shows off her love of Italian lace. Says Karen, “My grandmother taught me Italian laces during most of my grade school years, and after stepping away for quite a while, I believe that it is time to bring back the history and the art of lace. I have made what I learned much more accessible to new crocheters and have added a modern twist.”
The projects are designed for lace weight to fingering weight yarns, and each pattern includes charts as well as written instructions, and nice full color photos like the ones below!
In A Garden of Shawls, you'll also find a special stitches section, as well as hints and information on how to adjust the shawls to work with heavier yarns and to customize a design to your personal taste. For instance, I tried out the pattern on the cover using Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball!
I made a few rows with the written pattern, and a few more with the chart, and both were perfect. Karen has a fantastic sense of style and skill with the crochet hook, and A Garden of Shawls has a lovely variety of styles, shapes and designs to choose from!
You can purchase a copy directly from Karen at https://www.
You can follow Moogly on Facebook, Twitter, G+, Pinterest, Instagram, and Tumblr! I was provided materials for review purposes but all opinions are my own.
