This year I got to meet the creators of Unicorn Fibre care products, and I'm so excited to tell you about their fantastic products - and to give some away!
First of all, I have to say how fantastic the ladies behind Unicorn Fibre are. This is the kind of company that really cares - and that goes a long way!
But that's not enough - the products have to work. Unicorn makes 4 main products: Power Scour, Fibre Wash, Fibre Rinse, and Unicorn Baby. I don't have a baby around anymore, but I have plenty of other things that need some TLC. So I set up shop on my kitchen counter and tried out the Fibre Wash and Fibre Rinse!
I decided to try it out on a scarf I made when I was teaching myself to knit (pattern here). It's been used and abused and ignored for a few years now, and I had to dig it out of the hat box in the front hall. It was a fun knit, but frankly, a little too itchy for me, so mostly it got passed up. And full disclosure... it had never been washed. Ew!
Luckily this is super easy. Fill a container with lukewarm water, add 2-3 squirts of the Unicorn Fibre Wash, swish, and then add your crochet or knit item, holding it down so it soaks up the water. Then walk away for about 5 minutes!
This is what I came back to. Double ew! I had no idea it was so dirty. And I'm so glad I decided to clean it! A fresh container of water and a couple squirts of Fibre Rinse, and back in it went for another 5 minutes.
When I first put it in the Rinse I'll admit I was a little skeptical. Two squirts hardly seemed enough to make a difference. But when I put my hands in the water - Wow!! Not only did my hands come out feeling softer, but the scarf was noticably softer as well! There's no rinsing with water either, at this point, a gentle squeeze and lay it flat to dry and done!
I don't know if it comes across in the photos, but this scarf looks so much brighter - the colors are clearer, and it's just noticeably cleaner. And it's so much softer now - totally wearable! The scarf has been rescued by Unicorn Fibre Wash and Fibre Rinse!
Washing handmade items can be a little scary - especially the really delicate stuff. But Unicorn makes it so easy! I haven't been able to give the Power Scour a try just yet, but I do have an upcoming project in mind I'll use it on. The Power Scour is for deep cleaning oily/waxy fibers like wool and mohair, as well as alpaca, cashmere, and angora. Stuff that's a little extra itchy - and might still smell like the animal it came from. It also works on raw fleece! I'm so glad I have it in my crochet tool box!

All I can say is WOW! The scarf if brighter, and all around just looks much better. I need this wash/rinse from Unicorn. WOW. I have needed to soften my work countless times (wash too, I don't wash my crochet much (blush)), and I think I just found the perfect way! Fingers crossed! Thanks for the demo and the sharing.
