You may have already spotted Edward's Menagerie by Kerry Lord - full of patterns for 40 gorgeous softies. Well, now she's written a colorful new followup - Edward's Menagerie: Birds!

I got a chance to sit down with Kerry's latest book recently, and I immediately spotted a few favorites, and knew just which ones to make as gifts for bird-loving friends.
I also noticed right away that this book isn't set up in the "usual" way - it's really very clever! Think about birds... they have a basic set of shapes, with variations here and there. Kerry has taken this mix and match quality to create many of her patterns!
Of course, some birds are more unique than others, and get their own special pattern piecess. But you can dream up your own fantastical creations with the parts too!
I also really like that this book is broken into sections be skill level. At Level 1 you can make birds like doves, canaries, and flamingoes, and by the time you get to Level 3 it's macaws, pheasants and , of course, the peacock!
Both the photography and the quality of the book itself are fantastic, and there are large sections with lots of photos to help you do everything from crochet the pieces, to stuff them, to put them together. It's all here, and it's lovely.
While this book isn't necessarily one I'd recommend for beginner crocheters, there are certainly patterns here I'd rate easy through advanced. For US crocheters, the hardest part will be remembering that this book is written in UK terms. Luckily, for the most part this just means remembering that the UK double crochet is a US single crochet!

Kerrys Books are wonderful! I have been an avid Menagerie fan for some time. Anything that is not understandable in the books (animals, dinos or birds) you can follow on her help videos or email them and they are wonderful to help! Good luck and enjoy!!
