Velvet Scrunchies are one of the hottest items on wish lists this year! And thanks to velvet yarn, it's easy to make your own!
I demo'ed just how easy it is to make a Hyperbolic Velvet Crochet Scrunchie in the December 2019 Live video!
So to follow that up, I wanted to make sure there's a written version of this pattern as well, so it's that much easier to crochet your own scrunchies!

NOTE: This is more of a recipe than an exact pattern - feel free to play with it and create something unique!
INSTRUCTIONS:
Rnd 1: Sl st around hair band, ch 1, sc around entire hair band until it is covered, covering the tail end of the yarn as well; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, work 2 dc in each sc around continuing to cover the rest of the tail end; join with sl st in first dc.
Rnd 3: Ch 2, work 2 dc in each dc around; join with sl st in first dc and break yarn, weave in end.
OR! Keep going and make an even bigger and wavier scrunchie! Have fun with it!
And that's all there is to it! This style is a bit easier than working in the round, especially for beginner crocheters. Plus there's no need to count your stitches, and only one end to weave in!
I can’t wait to see your finished Hyperbolic Velvet Crochet Scrunchies! If this free crochet scrunchie pattern does inspire you to make your own, and you post a photo on social media, be sure to tag me @mooglyblog or #mooglyblog so I can check it out too! I love seeing what you make!

I just found this pattern. Wow! I haven't crocheted much lately but I think I'm going to try
the scrunchie pattern! I have 6 granddaughters so I think I'll do this for their birthdays!
I love that you show the abbreviation since I don't remember all of them.
Thanks a bunch!!

Thank you so much!

I made 4 of these yesterday afternoon for our daughter. The yarn is so soft, and it worked up so easily!
Thank you.
Tamara Kelly
Thank you Jane, I'm so glad you enjoyed the pattern!

Hi Tamara! I am obsessed with this pattern!! I haven’t used this yarn before but now that I have...lets just say there will be a lot more crocheting going on in my house! The only problem I am having is that when I weave in the ends, they are coming back out, it was a little embarrassing when my coworker came into my office and the tail had come completely undone, I really don’t know what I can be doing wrong, any thoughts?
Tamara Kelly
Hi Julie! Unfortunately this happens a bit more with slippery yarns. I'd recommend making sure that the tail is woven in at least 2-3 directions, and then if it's really stubborn a bit of glue or sewing it down with matching thread should help!

Can these be made smaller for a 6 yr old with thinner hair? She would love them
Tamara Kelly
Yes, just use a smaller hairband, or a thinner yarn and smaller hook - whatever gives you the results you're looking for! 🙂
