Here in Iowa, the Winter Storm Warning is a common enough occurrence - but when it comes on a weekend, it's not always unwelcome. It's the perfect time to relax by the fire, and crochet something warm for when you do finally have to venture outside again! The Winter Storm infinity scarf was designed and crocheted on one such long weekend, and it was the perfect piece to set the mood for a stormy, snowy winter.

Lion Brand Ice Cream yarn is marketed for babies - and that makes sense, as it comes in bright cheery colors and is crazy soft, washable and wearable. But the Cookies & Cream colorway is a little more sophisticated... a little more grown up. And with it's shades of grey and white, it reminded me of the layers of snow and clouds in a winter storm, making it the perfect yarn to use for this pattern!

Tamara Kelly
Thank you so much! 😀
Andrea
Thank you Tamara! This pattern might just be the one for some yarn that just hasn't found a good match yet. Yay! What stitch multiple do I use if I wanted to shorten the length?
Tamara Kelly
Thank you! It's a multiple of 8. 🙂
WheelyBad
Absolutely stunning Tamara, thank you for sharing.
In case I don't comment before I'd like to wish you and all the other crocheters out there a Merry Christmas.
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you so much WheelyBad! Merry Christmas to you too!
Melanie
Tamera, this is so beautiful. I'm hoping the matching hat is coming soon.
Tamara Kelly
I'll add it to my list! Thank you Melanie!
Chris
From a distance, the pattern has a "fur" vibe...like a chinchilla wrap. Very sophisticated. Excellent for gifting!
Tamara Kelly
Thank you so much Chris! It's not furry to the touch, but it IS very soft! 😀

Hi Tamara,as always your pattern is great. And I really like your blog. If you have time, please hop over to alleycatweb,wordpress.com and see how I've used your Glittery crochet stars in 2 rounds. And of course,I've posted a link to the pattern. Thanks.
Tamara Kelly
On my way! Thank you so much! 😀
Amanda
Hello there, This is a beautiful scarf. I will use the pattern to make Christmas gifts. However, I couldn't find the yarn recommended at the store (I went to 5 different stores). I grabbed Lion Brand Homespun which is a somewhat bulky yarn. Do you recommend I go up or down in my chaining? Any comments are much appreciated! Thanx. 🙂
Amanda
I should have mentioned, I am using a 6mm hook. Thanx again!
Tamara Kelly
I would definitely go up in hook size! I would also "try on" the chain at the beginning, and shorten it if needed. 🙂
Beverly
Hi, Tamara! I'm fairly new to crocheting, and I love your blog and tutorials! They've really helped me figure out quite a patterns. I'm making this beautiful scarf for my mother-in-law for Christmas. I just love the color, softness of yarn, and the design! I have what might be a dumb question, though: when you say to sew the bottom of round 1 closed, do you mean to sew the entire circle closed?? If so, how would the wearer be able to put the scarf on, if it's all closed on one end? Since it's done in rounds, I'm assuming the 32 rounds are the width of the scarf. Or do I only sew a portion of round 1 closed? I've moved on to round 2 (without sewing round 1 closed for now). I figure I can come back and sew it later. Thank you for any help you can provide!
Tamara Kelly
Hi Beverly! Thank you so much!! 😀
The sewing closed is just the bottom of that first round, sewing the first and last stitch of the row together at the base of the stitches. There's a video tutorial (click here!) that should make it much clearer. 🙂

Hi Tamara! I love the look of this scarf but I can't figure out what you mean by "sewing the first & Last stitch row together at the base of the stitches. You indicate that there is a video tutorial but when I "click here" nothing happens. Do you have another link for that video tutorial?
Tamara Kelly
Since the first round is worked as a row, when you slip stitch to the first stitch made, there's a little gap there at the bottom where the bottom of the first and last stitch aren't joined. You can use the tail to sew them together.
It's driving me crazy though, I can't seem to find where it say's click here on this post! :/

The "click here" I refer to is within a response you left to another person named "Beverly"...here Tamara Kelly says:

Ah, sorry, the way I see the comments as page admin isn't as clear as what you see. 🙂 Here's the link that should have been there: https://www.mooglyblog.com/joining-foundation-stitches-to-work-in-the-round/

Thank you for clarifying this. I just read the pattern (due to your weekly email) and was wondering the same thing!

hi Tamara
is this pattern written in american terminology?
also if i did not want to make it in a 'round' but as a 'strip' would i work pattern without joining?
cheers cheryl
Tamara Kelly
Yes, it's US terms. 🙂 I would recommend taking a look at the linked Little Waves Stitch Tutorial if you want to work in rows. 🙂

I love this scarf! I however am wondering about which yarn to use. I bought Lions Brand Ice Cream yarn in Cookies and Cream. The weight on it is light (3). Is this the yarn that was used in this pattern? Doesn't seem correct.
Tamara Kelly
Hi Sheryl! It is confusing - some skeins are marked as 3, and some as 2, but all the Ice Cream is the same. I'm not sure why that is, I've worked with a variety of colorways and they all work up the same. :/ But you do have the right yarn!

Hello! I just finished crocheting this scarf up and your pattern is quite nice. Can I ask what size your pom-poms were/what size pom-pom maker you used? Thank you!
Tamara Kelly
Thank you so much! I used the Clover Maker linked above in the bullet points - the larger of the two in that pkg. 🙂
