To prove to dad that I’m not a fool

Queenie entered the wide wild world of public education yesterday. She set off with her hair bumpy, her backpack decorated, a Spiderman Band-aid on her thumb, brand new Barbie sandals, and a nervous smile on her lips.
After two years of preschool at a place we loved with the passion of a thousand broken budgets, it was nerve-wracking dropping her off, and watching her go into the building without us. I never thought I’d be one of those moms - after all, hadn’t she been driving me nuts all summer? Isn’t this what I had been looking forward to? - but I got teary. Just a little. Sniff.
And she l.o.v.e.d. it. They start ‘em off easy with half days, going to full days next week. But tomorrow is her special day, where she gets to stay for the whole day, with just a few other kids there with her in the afternoon (in other words, it’s evaluate the kids time). Plus, she begged and pleaded, and we’ve relented - she’ll be going there for breakfast in the mornings too. Hey, it’s far cheaper than feeding her here, that’s for sure! But that means I’ll be alone with the boys for over 7 hours a day. I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry. It’ll definitely be quieter around here.
Or maybe not.
