The Sky May Be Falling: Apocalypse Watch 2008

Today, Boy-o’s world was shattered. It was turned upside down and inside out. Things for him will never be the same.
The sun was shining brightly in the sky. “Look mama! Ginkle star! Up!”
(A little sidenote here: If you have a two year old, don’t get all meta when you start teaching scientific principles. They just won’t quite get it. The Producer still hasn’t learned this lesson. Thanks to him, we had a two year old Queenie who went around for years telling people about the water displacement fairy. Now we have a two year old Boy-o who, upon being told that the sun is a star, has decided that it is the twinkle star, of the infamous children’s song. If you try to tell him it is the sun, you are lumped in with the agents of Satan, deliverer of broccoli.)
So, as I was saying. The sun was in the sky. Lovely. But then! Gasp! Shock! Screaming to the neighborhood!
“Mama! The mooooon! Up!”
I knew this day would come. I just didn’t know how to prepare him for it. Bad, bad mommy.
At first it was just shock, awe, and repetition. “Mama! Ginkle star up! Moon up!”
But then he started to think about it. And the tears began.
“Mama, moon broke. Oh mama, moon broke.”
“No baby, the moon is not broken. Now who wants a granola bar?”
At least I’ve learned that lesson.
3 for one! FREEBIEs OF THE DAY: It’s a woolly world out there, so teach your kids the right skills and help them reach for the stars.
