This weekend I had some unexpected downtime, and got to participate in a CAL using someone else’s pattern! I made the Yet Another Market Bag by Debbie Solinsky, for the CAL on CrochetHappy, and added a fantastic Crochet Crab Applique, by Sara on My Merry Messy Life!
I decided to go with a nautical theme, so I made the bottom and top/handles with Royal Red Heart Super Saver, the white mesh with Loops and Threads Impeccable, and the applique with Cherry Red Red Heart Super Saver. I made the base of the bag 9 rounds big, and chained 30 for the straps.
I think it turned out super cute – and it’s all set to accompany my sister on her summer trip abroad! The bag pattern is super easy, though the crab applique is a little trickier – but very doable.To keep one color for the mesh, I just slip stitched to the center of the next ch sp after joiningl Easy peasy!

A dear friend of mine got to be an extra on Portlandia last year, and I quickly got hooked on the show! So when I decided to make a little birdie applique to decorate some of the flower pot cozies, I couldn’t resist using the catchphrase from one of their sketches – Put a Bird On It!
