The Stormy Weather Cowl works up super fast with Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick! It's a pretty simple pattern, and I've got a video to show you just how it's made - here's the Stormy Weather Cowl Tutorial!
The Stormy Weather Cowl Tutorial Video
As seen in this video:
- US - N, 10.0 mm hook from Craftwich Creations
- Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick (Amazon affiliate link)
- Stormy Weather Cowl (written pattern)
You can learn how to make the Foundation Single Crochet stitch HERE, and how to make a seamless join HERE. And if you aren't familiar with dc2tog - a double crochet decrease - then you will be by the time you finish this cowl! You can see that particular stitch in more detail in it's own video tutorial HERE. But for the Stormy Weather Cowl, it's not worked in successive stitches, but rather in the successive chain spaces - two rows down! It makes for a very closed fabric with lots of interest, but it's not too hard either!
I designed the Stormy Weather Cowl to use almost one entire skein of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick, plus most of a skein of a second color. So you will need to buy more yarn if you upsize it significantly! To do so, just add any multiple of 2 to the starting chain/first round. Of course, if you want a closer fitting neckwarmer, just decrease by any multiple of 2!
I hope that this video has helped even the beginners make the Stormy Weather Cowl! It's a great instant gratification project, and is right on trend, with the great zig zag details and big chunky yarn! If you prefer your cowls a little less chunky, try making with Lion Brand Wool-Ease Worsted. You might want to add some more length, and repeat the rows a couple more times, but this is a great pattern to personalize - and it's easy to do so!

Hi Glory! You'll still need a foundation chain, but you'll want to make a dc and ch 1 in the first st, and a ch 1 and dc in the last st. 🙂
