The Spike Cluster Stitch, or SPC, is featured in the Blue Agave Phone Pouch pattern. It's a purely decorative stitch, fun to make but hard to describe in text. So what to do? Make a video!
I hope this makes things clearer! It's one of those stitches that you kind of have to dive into - intimidating at first, but once you've made a half dozen you'll see just how simple they are. Here's a static pic with the stitches labeled in the order the loops are made:
The key is to keep pulling each loop up to the height of the current row. Otherwise the whole thing will pull down into the fabric. You can use this stitch in blankets, cozies, garments - anything you want. Work from the top down, as in the Blue Agave Phone Pouch pattern, and you get an upright plant-like look. Work from the bottom up and you'll get something a little different. Have fun and enjoy! More videos to come soon!
